Best Hearthfire home for Frostfall players?
So here's my situation. As many of you already know, I'm playing a survivalist game with mods like Frostfall and iNeed.

I've just reached level 9 and I am thinking of "settling down" in an area and building up one of the Hearthfire homes. This won't stop me from traveling by horse and pitching my tent when necessary, but I'd like to have a base of operations where I can store supplies and equipment and do some crafting when needed.

As I understand it, there are 3 potential locations for a Hearthfire home, with some pros and cons to each. Here are the issues I'm worried about:

1) Proximity to town -- I'd like to be located somewhere that isn't so remote that I can't make it to town within 5-10 minutes by horse to trade with a merchant

2) Climate -- somewhere warm would be nice, so I'm not freezing to death as soon as I step out on my front porch

3) Food production -- I'm playing with iNeed and "You Hunger" for reduced food availability, so the ability to grow a few crops would be nice

4) Crafting -- I want to make sure that I have access to every conceivable kind of crafting station; I don't want to need to travel somewhere to enchant something or smelt some ore or make a potion.

So, taking these issues into account ... where is the best location for my new home? Falkreath seems attractive because it is further south, where the weather is a little warmer.

I'd say the Falkreath home sounds like the type for you.

for sure, this is the best option! However consider trying to use the following player's home mods:

Elysium Estate by thejadeshadow[www.nexusmods.com]

Mörskom Estate by Darkfox127 & Elianoras[www.nexusmods.com]

Alternatively, do not build your home yet. Play using dragonkiller cart as yours mobile home base with all functional workstations:

And to make it a bit more complex and interesting, assess the possibility of installing Hunterborn and try build your first firecamping from the beginning using only a stick and a stone:

Regarding the home mods, dragonkiller cart, etc. -- what is required to establish these homes? I like the idea that Hearthfire requires some time/money to build a space. I don't want to have a huge property handed to me free-of-charge. Same with the cart.

EDIT: The features on Leaf Rest do look really cool ... but again, this seems to be a huge estate that is handed to the player at no expense. That's not really immersive for my brand-new character.

I definitely have Hunterborn installed and I really like the system for dressing, skinning, and butchering animals. However, I haven't used it to build a fire yet ... I'm always using the Frostfall campfire instead, and using Dynamic Things to chop trees for firewood.

I agree with you!
I wanted to open the range of possible home experiences, just remembering that Hearthfires homes are true mansions at the end. However I would like to make just two qualifications in my previous suggestions: Mörskom state need to be acquired and equipped piece by piece. But I agree that it matches a mansion for a rich and successful character in a later game.

However what I believe, which must adapt perfectly to this playstyle is the dragonkiller cart, since at the beginning it is as simply a wagon not even the horse is provided. Getting your responsibility to find a horse by any means, even the harness need to be built from scratch. Including all the craftingstations also need to be built from scratch one by one using simple or rare materials available so in the case of the latter mod (Dragonkiller cart) immersion is complete in my opinion.
