I do think it is important that he has a terrible past, and was in league with Aldruin. Even having it explained that all dragons were under Aldruins influence doesn't fully excuse him.
It did annoy me too, at the point that the Blades told me to kill him. At that time I was not aware of his past. Also since you play a Blade in Oblivion you know them to be of resolute honour. Thus making their decision to kill him seem genuine, while clashing with you good impression of him.
The words of power that the Greybeards offer that you lose if you kill him, mean little to me. I have plenty of them and barely use any. I used to use fire in the early stages, but now I mostly use bow and one-handed.
I can deal with anything practically and sometimes feel overpowered. I wonder if that's because I specialized in only in exactly what I wanted like archery while leveling up. Meaning I didn't spend level up points across the board. Maybe then I have made my attacks more powerful that the game figured I would have at my character level. (Really though I guess feeling overpowered happens to everyone, as I guess most people specialize.)
I felt there are too many of these make you mind up moments in Skyrim. You either end up like me with lots of unresolved quests, or you just decide blindly to get it over with.
1: I love dragons (especially in games) and Paarthurnax is one of the best dragons i've met in gaming.
2: Screw the Blades, friendly dragons all day!
3: He's the voice of my life long gaming hero, Mario.
I choose to spare him and the others whether they are named or not.
I will kill only those that will not submit to me.
