Report a translation problem
I think the idea behind the control scheme, too, was to cement the idea that you are not the horse, but the person riding the horse. I'm not experienced horse rider, but seeing as pulling back on the bit usually means stop or "woah" there really is no command to make the horse back up, nor do I think a horse is all that comfortable doing that. Horses actually aren't the most graceful creatures in the world.
In any case, it isn't a bug or a mod, it's by design.
