But as said use the unofficial patches if you aren't using them now
Game will actually tell you if the save is corrupted. For example, a crashing save would not be corrupted, but there would be other (often fixable) problem.
Let's reserve notes about corrupted saves for ones that actually are corrupted. :)=
You did the right thing. If it works, it works. :)
I marked about calling the file "corrupted", because solving problems with corrupted files and save games crashing from scripts/bloating/glitches/bugs are a different matter. Latter ones can usually somehow get prevented, bypassed or cleaned out, but persistent save corruption usually hints of a much larger problem that needs to be dealt with.
