Report a translation problem
My understanding was that Solstheim was added to the map with the Dragonborn DLC but I may be more senile that I realised.
Hmm... so competent that I forgot to answer the actual question, didn't I. Tss.. what a moron. Anyway, the ship magically travels with you each way. Where abouts the equipment to perform this incredible feat is stored on board, though, is anyone's guess. :-)
Even if the boat didn't go back to skyrim after fast traveling from solstheim, I'd still be able to fast travel back. So whether or not I fast traveled has nothing at all to do with why I am not able to go back.
