Clothing to wear with armour
Hello. I've been looking around for a mod or something that would allow me to wear clothing and armour at the same time, or at least cloaks overtop. It was a feature in Daggerfall and I think Morrowind, but can't do it in Skyrim. I also find that Skyrim has a lack of interesting clothing in general besides a few outfits.

I've found a mod or two that include specific cloaks or capes that can go overtop of existing armour but there are only a couple of options, typically. Even if the selection is limited, does anyone know of mods that give clothing options that don't interfere with armour? The version of the game (vanilla vs. DLC) doens't matter right now.

Even if you did find a mod (which is possible), the robes and clothing will not be seen because armor is thicker then clothing and robes. In morrowind, armor were just a texture and robes where the ones that were bulky and thick which is why it could get away with it.

Not sure if there is a mod like that out there. Maybe, if they can turn off the armor on the character. But that will look silly.

Yeha, I am aware of that and it makes sense that non-bulky clothing wouldn't show under certaint types of armour, and it did take some juggling to not make yourself look ridiculous, but there could be sleeves or gaps and such. I like the look.

It's mostly cloaks I'm after, which could go overtop, but I haven't found any, so I imagine they would have to be made from scrach. The Noldor Armour (LOTR) mod does come with some capes which can layer overtop, and I might look at that one anyway since the other featuers are good. Would like to see more though.

I understand, I haven't seen any mode like that. The only mod I can think of is the bound armor mod, but that does something else. Gives the character a blue transparent orcish armor over whatever you are wearing (with robes it looks great).

Just saying that's it possible with the creation kit(it will just look weird); but I haven't came across it.

If you just want capes and cloaks you'll find quite a few mods with em on the TESnexus. Best place to get mods anyways. Chances are you'd find what you are looking for on there. immersive armor or something, idk its the one tht has like a hundred new armors is a nice one, and frostfall/wet and cold I believe come with cloaks too. The immersive armor also has a few armors like what you are looking for, things like a dwarven breastplate over a robe. Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but chances are it might be the closest you'll get. Immersive weapons generally goes with it, does exactly what you'd expect.

Isn't there a mod called "Cloaks of Skyrim" or something like that?

You could try messing the slot options in the Creation Kit. Although I am unsure of the mesh issues if you do do that.

If the clipping bothers you, try this mod as well. It is not compatible with other walk mods, if you have any. Hide cloaks do not yet benefit properly from this mod, altough you can use them normally.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've never thought about doing anything with the creation kits or construction sets for any of the ES games. Does it require much skill with graphics or rendering or just a whole lot of patience?

I've heard of that hypothermia mod from an article where a person added a bunch of mods at randon. I've be a little scared of it, I think.

There's no need to be afraid of it. It is not that severe. You have plenty of time to build a camp and fire, or head to somewhere warm. In addition, current version can even save you, if you pass out from cold.

Roads of Skyrim has been built so that you can reach another city in a day and there is usually at least one inn in between them. Camping gear is usually pulled out, when you climb up to mountains to study ruins and caves, practise on site alchemy (with mortar and pestle) or wander trough the frozen glaziers of Pale - or you get caught by the weather and want to warm up.

Frostfall adds more than hypothermia. It also adds camping, survival menu, gear and reason to use them. It also gives you both ways and means to stop during your journeys and get familiar with the ground. Standard fire burns about 8 ingame hours, so there is no rush.

My characters are mobile. They might have home somewhere in Skyrim, but they are just as well in home on the road. You get entirely different point of the view to this game, when you place your fur tent somewhere to northern shores and start investigate the area, instead of just running trough it (or completely ignoring it) as usual. Sunsets are beautiful in Skyrim and having a reason to hang around some place is usually both beneficial and fun.

I am personally also using Realistic Needs and Diseases, Hunterborn, Loot and Degradation, Real Shelter and a large overhaul known as Skyrim Redone to add to my experience. Sufficient to say, my characters enjoy taking their time to steer away from the road: place their camps near the fresh water and spend few days hunting, cooking, gathering alchemy ingredients and doing some treasure hunting around different areas.

Getting back to city is of course also fun. You don't end up visiting same cities too often, so it is always nice to see some friendly faces around you.

Besides, someone has to buy all the stuff you have crafted and gathered on the road...

Heh. Long post from a simple note. Granted that I talked about much more than just Frostfall, but I wanted to tell you why I am personally using it. Other mods that I mentioned add to my fun, but Frostfall is the core of it. :)

Get Winter is Coming + Cloaks of Skyrim.
As for Frostfall, get it. Even without making campfires one can totally survive. Just when it's night, you're in the northern half of the map and it's snowing you really need to get inside. It adds a nice extra thrill. Running through the snow, dashing in a cave only to find yourself staring at two angry bandits. Sluggish with hypothermia you grab your axe and you start swinging, afterwards so wait a bit by the fire and warm up. Of course you can use spells and booze to ease the cold as well.

Be easier to level up Alteration and cast flesh defense spells, can wear clothing as armor, then.

If you don't like how short the spell stays active, sure you can find toggle mods or increased time length, mods.

Yeah, I can use spells to boost armour but I would like more of a clothing selection.

The camping idea sounds fun. I'm always wandering around but only have one house so I tend to get stuck needing to backtrack a lot to ditch the stuff I've accumulated. (Still playing the vanilla game until I finish it once, so no saddle bags for me right now).

Hmm I can't remember the name. There is a brigadine mod on nexus that adds tons of light bandit like armor. Mostly clothing with a chainmail or leather cuirass. Might be something of interest. Anyone know the name?

I have a mod from the workshop called MC-Clothes by TheLoneFerret287. It lets you turn regular clothes into armor. That is, it looks like regular clothing but has armor rating and can be enchanted and upgraded. The mod comes in DG and DB versions too. I've been using it for a long time and I love it.
