Generally, tes5edit usually breaks more things then it actually fixes. It's pretty common for that to show up. Then again, it's also common that mod authors tell people using their mods to not run it as it will break them.

In short, don't use it. 90% of the time it will break more than it fixes

Generally you don't clean mods with it unless you really know what you're doing and the mod actually needs it, most don't. The program is useful for cleaning master files when you have a problem. In other words, don't fix what isn't broke. Gopher has a good series on the program and simple instructions on how to use it.

This is a general comment and not directed @Emirate.

TES5Edit is like any program. If you can't be bothered to read (or view) the instructions, don't be surprised when it stuffs up your game. What is that old saying, 'When all else fails read the manual'? Too late my friend.

If TES5Edit did not do the job it was designed to do, it would not be pinned up in the C:/Help/Tips column, at the top of the discussion board, nor would so many gamers use it.

By cleaning update and DLCs removes ITMs and UDRs added by mods good or bad.
Loot will give you messages on mods that shouldn't be cleaned and which ones to be cleaned.
Rule of thumb don't clean if only a few dirty edits.
Also you do not verify your game after cleaning as this will revert the game back to the position that you started with.
You only verify game before a clean never after.

In a nutshell:
- Clean your master files. If any mod tries to use dirty values in them, your game will CTD and keep crashing every time mods affect to those values.

- Do not clean mods, unless especially instructed to do so. Most mods that would affect to same values and variables would be very likely uncompatible with each other in the first place. If you have crashing with similar mods, read what mod authors are saying about edits in their mod. If they say that clearing them is okay, then do so. If not, remove either one of those clashing mods and find something else to replace it.
