I found a fix for Calixto Bug (SPOILER)

I know variations of the Calixto murder case bug are pretty common. I wanted to type what I did while it's fresh in memory, in hopes it will help someone who is stuck and has run out of options.

When doing Blood on Ice (or even Killer on Loose) I found Calixto stuck in the market, and he wouldn't attack. He has attacked in that location in my prior games. Others may find him walking around. This potential solution works for the marketplace only -- or at least that I know of.

When you're told to patrol the Stone Quarter (SAVE your game) check the marketplace the night you're told. See if Calixto is there. A guard will probably be there too but you'll know you're on the right track.

Go away from the area (I went to the graveyard) and waited until 8pm or so the next night. I waited until people left before I entered the market.

The guard was gone and I attacked Calixto until down. (He doesn't die).
Then I killed his intended victim. (The women he was standing behind).
He died spontaneously at the same time.

The quest was marked as solved.

I went to Jorleif and he was unresponsive.

I went down to the prison to activate dialog with the mage, Wuunferth.

I came back to Jorleif and was able to close the quest.



Now I and hopefully you can buy a darn house and decorate it and he won't show up. :D

I hope this workaround is repeatable and helps someone.

This is for people who have no other working options, obviously. Reloading and backtracking did absolutely nothing in my case.

my solution is a bit funny. when i went to the market, i saw Calixto standing and from a short distance in front of him was his victim. both of them standing doing nothing and that was after am. i tried waiting and nothing happend. i tried reloading an early save and still nothing happens. i attacked him head on and he would not die, plus a bounty was put on me. finally, i killed him by crouching and doing a sneak attack with an enchanted one handed sword. he got first on his knees, then after 2 to 3 seconds he died and the quest was completed.

edite: one of the enchantments of my one handed sword was a drain health enchantment.

I too had the issue whereby Calixto and his victim are just standing around in the Market area

Im sure mine bugged out due to not talking to Calixto earlier in the quest chain about the Strange Amulet

I fixed the issue by using the console

I targeted Calixto while in the console mode and typed

"disable" and then "enable"

Once this was done, Calixto reset and then attempts to kill his victim, and you can finish the quest normally

Hope this easy solution helps others

I always go to the marketplace AFTER 8 PM, and always manage to chop the little jerk's head off before he kills his victim, quest continues normally.

I went to the marketplace at 1 AM after the first day he shows up and although he was stuck I could still kill him without getting a bounty on my head. I don't like it though, because since he didn't do anything I didn't have any prood it was him. Using the console to reset him didn't work either. It just gave me a bounty after I killed him. Most buggy quest I've encountered in a bethesda game.

I just used the fix on the wiki, the prid&moveto player fix, it teleported a corpse to me, and calixto then stabbed his victim, and I proceeded as normal.

Easiest solution if he get stuck.
Open console, select him, and type "kill".

Patrol x area at night, Calixto attacks mid day, caught red handed.
Later I get a courier note that whatevername war veteran died and I get the "inheritance".
Meaning Calixto is not the Sole Murderer and the Priest is influencing other people ?

The strange amulet did not appear for me this time. I had to add it by-hand. However, I cannot ask Calixto about it, nor can I speak with Wuurferth. This game totally sucks because of the bugs that were never fixed. This is the first time I'm had problems with this particular quest, but now I'm stuck.
