More like: A rogue-like dungeon crawl
All right, so here's the deal: I LOVE rogue-likes. Seriously, they are the bomb. Now, I'm not looking for perma-death or anything like that. Instead, what I want, is to have unknown enchantments. What I mean is this:

When you find a random sword of embers in a skyrim dungeon, pick it up, swing it at a rock, nothing happens. However, when you hit a CREATURE, it burst into flames. What I wanna know is how you knew it was a sword of embers, if you have to hit something to tell? Answer? You can't.

I want a mod that will make it so that until used (prehaps wielded a certain amount of time, or until an actual scroll/spell of identify is used) you don't know what a magic item does. An even better addition would be to also add cursed items, like a sword you can't unequip or a bow you don't realize does -10% damage I realize that the curse part (and possibly the whole thing) is a hard thing to pull off, and that I am asking a bit much of anyone who reads this.

Unfortunately, I don't have much modding experience, and I have 0 Skyrim modding experience, so while I know that this must be hard to do (if it were easy I feel like this would exist already, but after extensive searching I can't find it) I have no idea HOW hard it is, or where to even begin, so I doubt I could fumble through this ambitious mod myself. Thus, I am turning to the good people of Steam to help me either find a mod like this, make this mod for me (and anyone else who likes the idea), or to even help me bumble my way through making this my first mod.

Let me know if you have an idea where to start, if you plan on taking this on, if you would also use this mod, or if you know of something like this already out there. Thank you and have a great day!

The logical answer is, that the magical glow/runes/inscribing would indicate that it is a sword of embers. The same logic applies to mundane weapons and armor.

How would you know that the sword you possess deals 22 damage before swinging the thing, or that an armor piece offer 13 Armor?
(Dont try to apply logic to mechanics that are purely there to help organize the player).

All said and done, "Mystic weapons"(unknown stats and effects) would be cool in any case. ;)

That's the way it used to be in D&D. You'd find a magical weapon that only the DM knew what it did. You could use it, and he would apply the variables to your attack, but you didn't know what effect it had unless it was a visible effect. Then, once you left the dungeon, you could go into a town and pay a particular merchant to figure out what it did. I do like this idea, adds a bit of realism to the game.

nitnoid2002 I thank you for your comment. I, too, play D&D (mostly Pathfinder these days) and as a DM I still do this. This is exactly what I want out of a mod for Skyrim, but unfortunately I can't mod worth anything, so I've been looking around the internet (bad idea, never look around the internet).
