I lost my house book...
I forgot what the book is called, but you receive it from the steward after purchasing the house. I bought a house in whiterun, and left, then tried going back to the steward to buy stuff for my house, and now there isn't an option. What do I do?

restart the game then go a quest for a different jarl then it should be fine when you go back

I did multiple quests for different jarl's, and restarted the game plenty of times... Still no option

How much money do you have? When I encountered a similar issue where Proventius, the steward, would not give me options to upgrade Breezehome after I had purchased it and the book was in my inventory, on a whim I reloaded the save and chopped some wood, putting me at just over 6800 septims, which is the amount of money you need to purchase the home and all of its upgrades. Then he offered the dialogue option.

There is another glitch where Proventius won't have the dialogue if he is away from his position near the Jarl's throne. But he will if he is back on duty. I nrver could get the option if he was up on the balcony for example, having a loooong breakfast. Come back later, then ok.

Pretty sure the books got nothing to do with it. As already said try waiting some hours and come back later.

There is an occasional bug where the purchase options don't ever show up, no idea what causes it but you can force the upgrades with console commands as a last resort.

I had the balcony glitch but the Unofficial patch seems to have fixed that.
The book just details the available upgrades it isn't required to possess it however. I've upgraded several houses and haven't bothered reading it and most likely either sold it or stashed it in a chest.

Install Unofficial patches and things get better.

If you really NEED the book, which I doubt, the ID Code is 000F11B6 (player.additem 000F11B6 1) but you can always see the info contained in the book by visiting this website http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Whiterun_Home_Decorating_Guide

Hope it helps

He dont need the book.
And he do need to kill the dragon first before he can buy the house Breezehome.

call me a stickler for individual self determination, thats why I actually gave him a solution SHOULD he wish to go that route. He chooses what he needs.

Nope after you come from Bleakfalls barrow and spoken to the Jarl you can buy the house so before you're off to kill the dragon. I bought it myself a couple of times just before slaying my first dragon.

^^ You need to kill the dragon before you can become a thane not a houseowner.
