How do you spawn items?
So I'm a bit new to the PC Skyrim, and I quickly found out they play completely different from each other making some things harder to learn, such as the mouse and keyboard. But my main question here is how do I spawn items? I have seen people do it in videos where they type in a command and the chosen item spawns, however I'm unsure if this is a mod or a feature in the default Skyrim that I haven't found yet. So how do you do it?

They play the same, not completely different. You can easily hook up a controller to a PC and use it if mouse and keyboard are too much for you to learn. As for your other question, It's the console which is part of vanilla Skyrim.

I wouldn't say the keyboard gives me trouble, it just feels weird compared to a controller.

As for my question I was wondering how to use it, since there doesn't seem to be any way to activate it as far as I can tell.

I find it easier, then again I've been using mouse and keyboard in games for the past 2-3 years now. It get's easier the more you use it. You know, google should be your first place to ask for stuff, it'll usually give you an answer before coming here.

Well, I came here first because this is the Steam forum. Any questions you have can be answered here as well, I can Google it but on Steam you can get the same results just as fast.

On most keyboards I know, it's the key just to the left of the 1 key at the top left of the keyboard, just to the left of the top row number keys. Everyone calls it the 'tilde' key, or ~, but that's what you get when you hit Shift first. Just press that key, which is a reversed apostrophe or left-hand apostrophe ` and that will open the console.

You'll want to make sure you've saved your game, and the perfect command to learn first in the console is save. You type in 'save gamename', not using the quotes ' ' and you'll get a saved game with that name. I recommend something like 'save beforeusingconsole' or something like that, so you'll know which one to go back to if something goes toes-up in the process.

Here's some to get you started... And when they say something like highlight the door you want to open, you have to move your cursor up to the door in the game world and left click it. This can be extremely imprecise, and you'll just have to get used to selecting the wrong things sometimes when it decides to select something nearby or in the background from what you actually want. There might be a way to copy those item refs (the numbers that show up onscreen, about the middle just above the console "window", but I don't know how to do that.

Oh and here's the page I copied the following from, so you can get at those item list links. Some are better than others though, just so you know. I don't know whether these at this page are any good or not, it was just the first page that came up with some basic console codes.

Console Commands

tgm
Good ol' God Mode means you're completely invulnerable to everything, and pretty damn god-like. And no one needs to write a book about you or anything.

tcl
No clipping lets you go literally anywhere in the game world, from the top of the sky to the bottom of the, er, sky. Fascinating if you want to witness the game world.

unlock
Can't find that vital key? Lockpicking skill too low? Simply highlight the door or chest you want to unlock, and type "unlock" into the console. If only this worked in real life.

psb
Every single spell in Skyrim is now yours!

player.advlevel
Automatically level up - perfect if you hate playing games.

caqs
Automatically complete all the stages of your primary quest - perfect if you hate playing games.

showracemenu
Unhappy with your blind, inbred-looking Bosmer chap? You can adjust the way your character looks just like you did at the start of Skyrim - but this will reset your level and skills.

player.modav skill X
Where "skill" is the skill you want to modify, and X is the amount you want to modify it by. Skills are inputted via their in-game names without spaces, apart from Archery which is "Marksman", and Speech, which is known as "Speechcraft".

player.additem ITEM ###
Every single item in Skyrim has a code, a bit like an Argos catalogue of fantasy objects. You'll find them in our list of Skyrim item codes (link pending) - replace "ITEM" with the item's code, and "###" with the number of items you want. Now your dreams of owning 47 cabbage potato soups can come true. You can find the codes in our Skyrim item codes post.

player.additem 0000000f ###
A simple way to get some free gold - any number between 001 and 999 will do.

player.additem 0000000a “###”
Running low on lockpicks? Enter the number you require here and they'll magically appear.

addshout
Combine with the codes on this Wikia page to add your selected shout.

tm
Toggles all in-game menus - perfect if you want to take some screenshots to convince elderly relatives that Skyrim is where you went on your holidays. Note that this also turns off the Console commands menu, meaning you'll have to type it again invisibly to be able to see what you're doing.

tmm
Followed by 0 or 1 turns map markers on or off.

tfc
Not Team Fortress Classic, unfortunately. However, you will be able to access the flycam and pretend to be a dragon. This is how everyone gets all those amazing Skyrim shots you've seen.

tai
Toggles AI, which means people won't interact with you, or do anything at all.

tcai
Turns combat AI on or off, turning dragons into placid beasts who act like you aren't there. A bit like cats.

tdetect
This one lets you behave like a little rapscallion, as it turns naughty business detection (stealing, murdering, doing a poo in the woods etc) on or off. You'll still get caught if you try pickpocketing, though.

Nice! I probably won't use the quest codes though since I like to play the game from beginning to end lol. But thanks for the information!

One of the most useful sites is Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP). Click on Skyrim. It will give great detail how to use the console and has lists of codes for it. While the Steam forums are great, you have to wait for ppl to respond. If you're in game, pause it and then you can minimize (ALT + TAB) and get to the internet and a quicker answer to questions.

Just be careful if you start spawning large amounts of items, CTD's and save corruption abound!

I wasn't planning on spawning anything "huge" I just wanted some higher level armor and some free magic for tight combat. I'm saving the big stuff for when I'm ready to mod the game ;)

You can do that through a mod without using the console. Dragonborn Crafting Hall would do that.

I don't exactly know where to find that though.

The Nexus version.

It is also on Steam.

That's a nice looking mod. I am sooo tempted to grab it, but I want to start a survivalist mod playthrough next and that just won't fit in to my plans unfortunately. Would come in quite handy for my current playthrough though.....hmmm. I think I'll get it anyway. Thanks for that!

Because I hate spending hours playing (questing, searching, collecting, etc) only to finally decide to make some special gear and enchant some things, and half an hour later, think I want a certain piece of equipment....and need a single item that I don't have that requires me to search for hours again just to find the one thing I need. A Lvl 60 Dragonborn god shouldn't be bothered with the mundane like that. In the "real world" of adventuring, he'd have 7 lackeys eager to go acquire any number of special ingredients for him at a moment's notice, so this mod fits that bill just nicely.

I don't consider it cheating; it's utilizing my time wisely. :-)

Well said and the mod is fantastic, but then I am kind of partial to it. ;-)

Dragonborn Crafting Hall has every spell in the game plus several new ones designed for high level play, it makes it so you can use magic even on legendary difficulty and live. It also includes a "Ring of Enchanting" so you don't have to make a potion every time you want to boost your enchanting skill. If you are like me and create special clothes to wear while crafting (that boost smithing and alchemy) you can even learn this skill to put on whatever items you want to as well.
