I wouldn't say the keyboard gives me trouble, it just feels weird compared to a controller.
As for my question I was wondering how to use it, since there doesn't seem to be any way to activate it as far as I can tell.
You'll want to make sure you've saved your game, and the perfect command to learn first in the console is save. You type in 'save gamename', not using the quotes ' ' and you'll get a saved game with that name. I recommend something like 'save beforeusingconsole' or something like that, so you'll know which one to go back to if something goes toes-up in the process.
Here's some to get you started... And when they say something like highlight the door you want to open, you have to move your cursor up to the door in the game world and left click it. This can be extremely imprecise, and you'll just have to get used to selecting the wrong things sometimes when it decides to select something nearby or in the background from what you actually want. There might be a way to copy those item refs (the numbers that show up onscreen, about the middle just above the console "window", but I don't know how to do that.
Oh and here's the page I copied the following from, so you can get at those item list links. Some are better than others though, just so you know. I don't know whether these at this page are any good or not, it was just the first page that came up with some basic console codes.

I wasn't planning on spawning anything "huge" I just wanted some higher level armor and some free magic for tight combat. I'm saving the big stuff for when I'm ready to mod the game ;)
You can do that through a mod without using the console. Dragonborn Crafting Hall would do that.

The Nexus version.

It is also on Steam.
Because I hate spending hours playing (questing, searching, collecting, etc) only to finally decide to make some special gear and enchant some things, and half an hour later, think I want a certain piece of equipment....and need a single item that I don't have that requires me to search for hours again just to find the one thing I need. A Lvl 60 Dragonborn god shouldn't be bothered with the mundane like that. In the "real world" of adventuring, he'd have 7 lackeys eager to go acquire any number of special ingredients for him at a moment's notice, so this mod fits that bill just nicely.
I don't consider it cheating; it's utilizing my time wisely. :-)
Well said and the mod is fantastic, but then I am kind of partial to it. ;-)
Dragonborn Crafting Hall has every spell in the game plus several new ones designed for high level play, it makes it so you can use magic even on legendary difficulty and live. It also includes a "Ring of Enchanting" so you don't have to make a potion every time you want to boost your enchanting skill. If you are like me and create special clothes to wear while crafting (that boost smithing and alchemy) you can even learn this skill to put on whatever items you want to as well.
