[SOLVED]Back porch door constantly relocks and is unopenable in Proudspire Manor... Why?
It's the one going outside onto the back porch. If I exit to the porch from inside the manor, I can't go back in that door. I checked while typing up my question, and it seems like it's a widely known issue, and it was never fixed. Not officially, nor unofficially in the Unofficial Patch(es).

Is there no mod that fixes it? Has anyone worked out a way to permanently unlock this door via console? It's not a huge problem, because I can always go around the outside of the house and go back inside by the front door, but it is annoying to a certain degree.

I thought I would prefer some of the smaller homes in Skyrim, but now that I've actually started acquiring some property in various places, Proudspire Manor is starting to feel like home. I like the layout, the size, the amenities... all of it. I thought I would have preferred the more rustic or homely locations, but PM feels more like my character's style than any other place so far; even mods don't seem to be fitting all my requirements, although I haven't tried a whole lot of them.

This doesn't fix it?

"The side door onto the balcony cannot be opened even if you have the house key. ?

Jordis has the key to the door. Completing the Thane of Haafingar quest will unlock it."

I'll have to double-check. Your link above also listed the fix as being the "unlock" command in the console.... I knew about that to get something unlocked, but didn't think about it for this situation. I'll remember to try that if Jordis doesn't work.

I bought the house from Falk but only had enough to get two upgrades (one of thems was the porch upgrade); then I visited the place to check off the "visit your new home" objective, by going inside, looking around, then going out onto the porch and discovered the locking problem; then I went back to Falk (after selling some potions) and bought the remaining upgrades. Went back to the house and tried that door again, finding it unlocked. But, after going out it, it was locked again, and I had to enter by the front door again.

It wasn't until my second visit that I noticed Jordis had moved in. I'll ask her tonight about that key. If she doesn't have one, I'll send her to get one made.

Thanks.

Ok, I just spent about 30 minutes enchanting stuff, smithing stuff like arrows, creating a ton of potions, reducing all my ores to ingots, upgrading all my weapons to the highest (legendary/flawless/etc) levels I could get them to, made a ton of enchanted items for different types of characters, rearranged my two companions' gear, made them some better stuff, upgraded everything of theirs that I could. .... it was at LEAST 30 minutes, maybe longer, and I was just putting all my leftover ores, ingots, and dragon bones/scales back in their chests....and BAM!!! CTD. That's what I hate about Skyrim is wasting time. Gave up, going to bed, just have to wait till another day to do all my housekeeping chores.

But, on the bright side, my back porch door is unlocked in Proudspire Manor now. After having checked it a couple of times after reloads, I went back to Proudspire Manor tonight after wasting all that crafting time, to try something different, and talked to Jordis, my housecarl, and she had no insights to offer...just the 4 standard dialogue interactions, and I decided to try the console 'unlock' trick and went outside...and the door is already unlocked (from both sides) just fine.

Maybe it was a certain time lapse in the game? I don't know. But it's working now.
