Drunken Huntsman
Some of my NPC's have disappeared, apparently killed either by dragons or stormcloaks. One is the guy that runs the Drunken Huntsman. Could someone tell me his name? I want to try to resurrect him with "placeatme." I tried it on a lark on the woman named "Vittoria" (sp?) at Warmaidens and it worked. I also used it on "Lod" to complete a quest that started with "Talk to Lod..." and when I got there, he was dead.

You should first make sure that the characte is indeed dead, before using potentially damaging commands like placeatme.

This command will not bring the dead characters back to you, but create another reference from them. Multiply scripts may not be able to have effect to this character. For example, new reference from Belethor is usually unable to run the store and is still considered as "dead" by the game.

Character you are looking for is Elrindir. Be warned that creating another copy of this character may not function properly and can cause problems, if game does not set his AI properly.

Let's hope that all goes well and Elrindir gets back to work.

There is no woman named Vittoria at Warmaidens. Vittoria Vici is Emperor's cousin in Solitude.

Just in case that you need more information about console codes:

I guess you're mixing Vittoria Vici with Adrianne Avenicci, the wife of Ulfberth War-Bear who often works outdoors for Warmaiden's. And yeah, if vampire decides to cause a scene, she can easily be the first to die.

well, put your game on Legendary, even the little rabbits out in the bush can tank Master Vampires. I watched the little kid from Riverrun tried to tank a dragon when it came to town, surreal and hilarious at the same time

I is likely that difficulty had nothing to do with it. Multipliers from difficulty scripts will only affect to damage created and taken by the player character. It does not have any other effects (at least as far as I am aware.)

Bunnies from the bushes.... heh, I would like to see something like that. :)

You'd be better off using "resurrect" command instead, "placeatme" creates a duplicate that won't have the AI of the original. But even resurrect can mess up the AI if another NPC is set to take over if the original dies.

Better to reload a previous save and use one of the "essential NPC" mods (or make your own, it's extremely easy to do in the Creation Kit)

Town NPC's die ridiculously easily in vampire attacks, one of Dawnguards major annoyances.

I experiment with things, but I reload an older save if the results aren't what I want.

I'm pretty sure Elrindir is dead. He hasn't been there in months, and Vittoria (or whoever) was an ash pile in front of Warmaidens. (I got the name by examining the ash pile.) Both probably died in the Stormcloak invasion.

As for Vittoria, I guess just because she's using the forge doesn't mean she works there. She didn't look like the woman who was there at the start. She said something about a taking a sword to a relative in a court but one of my followers was talking at the same time and I missed most of it.

Well, if Elrindir doesn't work, at least I tried. Load an old save.

As for cloned living NPC's, my experience has been that they usually just walk away and disappear as soon as they're out of sight. I've tried following them, and as soon as they go behind a rock or pass through a door and they're gone.

One cloned follower stayed with me until I met the original. As soon as I asked the original to follow me, the clone vanished. (They had different armor, so I know which was which.)

Another has two clones hanging around. One is still in the Bannered Mare, one is at Lakeview Manor chopping wood, and I forget where I left the third one. This has been the case for quite some time, and I haven't noticed any ill effects.
Elaini is right. It was Adrianne Avenicci. Sorry about the bad memory. I'm terrible with names, both Skyrim and real life. I play with a notepad to write them down when I think I'll need them again. Was Adrianne a vampire? If so, I probably killed her. Well, mostly I was hoping that bringing her back would make the ash pile go away, because I'm tired of looking at it. (It didn't.)

I hadn't heard of "resurrect" before. I tried "resurrect elrindir," "resurrect (number)" and "resurrect (number) (quantity)" and got an error on all. I did a "placeatme" and he showed up and offered to sell me weapons. Of course, lots of people will sell you weapons, that doesn't mean he'll stay and run the store. Don't know if Adrianne is still there, either. It was night and Warmaiden's was closed.
Okay, back to Whiterun. Elrindir is back at the counter, Adrianne has presumably gone home, and the big pile of ash is still there.

Meanwhile, the dead body is still in the fireplace at Sevrin Manor, and I still have some quests that appear unsolvable, but those can wait for another day.

Thanks for the help.

I think difficulty setting does impact damage taken by NPCs, that is, NPCs not engaged in combat with the player. I've noticed that horses I buy on my legendary playthroughs seldom die if they're attacked by bandits. When I first started out, on novice-adept, they would die every time.

You might be correct there. Difficulty does not have any effect on how much damage your followers get. I must have misread this previously.

Please BECAREFUL using placeatme commands on unique npc's It will only give a cloned copy not the actual i see so many people use that, then wonder why the npc wont say boo, wiki the npc's id and try these, first see if he's dead with prid "id " then type moveto player, and if he shows at your feet as a corspe use resurrect, other wise he may show up nearby you with command or your could use player.moveto "id" then enter, and see where it takes you ...
