Quotation Marks not working in console
I can't seem to be able to input quotation marks " " into the console. This is becoming quite detrimental to my game as I sometimes need to use the console for debugging and the giving of items.

Yeah you're not suppose to use quotation marks like for example to add gold you just type...player.additem 00000f 1000...and you get 1000 gold

no i am referring to something like Help "Elven Armor"
I cant type "Elven Armor"
Kaasahthur (OLD) Sep 3, 2014 @ 8:16pm
Just type help elven 4
Woodhouse Sep 3, 2014 @ 8:17pm
but that doesnt work
because all kinds of other thigns show up. like elven npcs. and elven weaponry. and elven arrows.

Am I able to scroll through these?
Kaasahthur (OLD) Sep 3, 2014 @ 8:17pm

I really don't know I've never used quotation marks and any time I read a console command they always say input without quotation

It's a fairly well known problem that some keyboards just don't support using the quote marks in Skyrim's console....

I found a couple of suggestions online with google, but since my keyboard doesn't do that, I can't test it out.

  • I also had the 'can't use quotes' problem, and found a slightly different workaround: whenever you need to type a single or double quote, press the button once then hit spacebar, and the quotes should appear.

  • I solved this problem by opening my device manager and disabling Microsoft E-home infared transciever located under universal serial buss controllers. Kidwitthafro (talk) 05:11, May 7, 2012 (UTC)

This worked for me as well, Kidwithafro, thank you. For those who don't know how to do this: Start>Right Click on "My Computer" or "Computer" and select "Manage"> Click on "Device Manager"> Click on the arrow next to "Universal Serial Bus" (or double click Universal Serial Bus, or whatever gets it to expand)>Right click on "eHome Infrared Receiver" and select "Disable". Warning, if your wireless keyboard uses an IR Receiver and doesn't have its own driver, this might disable it. Make sure you have a wired keyboard and mouse for back up.

I'd try the first bulleted item above to see if that works.

If you don't have one of those eHome transceivers, then I don't know.. Scrolling up through a long list of stuff is not a solution.

Have you checked to see if the console will let you enter Windows' Alt-keycodes into it? Say, if you hold down your Left Alt key and using the numpad, enter 34, what happens? Do you get the " mark like I do? And will Windows let you do that in the console? It's the only thing I can think of to get around that limitation atm.

Also, on a similar note, I found a "mod" that fixes the mislabeling of keyboard controls if you remap your default controls in Skyrim! So happy.

Try my method. Open notepad and write anything ex. help "Ebony Battleaxe" and than save it in the main folder of Skyrim with a easy name to not forget xD
Than open Console (inside Skyrim/Fallout 4) and type "bat" without quotes followed by press Spacebar and type the name of file you previously saved (don't forget to put .txt at the end as it is a text file) and so press Enter to execute command. Now magically thats works!!
