Hard to take it seriously when it runs down to "It suxx even though I admit I'm not veddy gewd".
But since you asked nicely.
2H weapons, yes they are slower than the ever popular sword & board fighting style (Which I assume you use), but I honestly find them more reliable in that I can do alot of damage quickly and I can stun my enemies in a single blow.
This is even more true when I fight like a German knight. Get used to heavy armour and shrug almost everything the game throws at you. Now as you mentioned, Ice Storm mages are a big problem but you can solve that by either engaging them in ranged combat, taking cover or dodging.
On cc, I don't see how sword & board are superior in it. With 2H, I can wipe them out very quickly before they become a problem.
The worst thing you can do in a """"REAL RPG""" is to start to blame what you have, but you must rather start to investigate how you do it...how you develop your skill....what skill are important....what skill to wait with to later...and so on.
With weapon it is equal importent to know when to block....as when to strike...that need practise....with mages you need to develop your sneak skill as well as your magic skill...if not you will soon be shoot down in one hit...and so on...""Real RPG" is always slow process...the focus is never on the action itself...but the life and how you dela with thing.
Action RPG's are not REAL RPG..Strategy RPG are not real RPG...it has got inflation in the name RPG...they put in the option to adjust some figures and call it RPG....it makes a lot of people choose the wrong game for them self.
Yeah, I'm using sword and shield figthing method. It give me many opportunities of what I can do with shield: I can simply defend myself, I can use it as weapon to bash enemy and stop their attacks or spells, beside that you can upgrate you shield to get 50% resistants against magic and level 100 - shield charge - So overpowered.
Arrow and bow are nice, but they don't work for me too well since I had bad accurate + stupid fps issues and even I try to taking cover from magers, but against multiple amount of enemies and especially in caverns - I had only 3-4 lucky shots till they reach to me and they would beat the crapp out of me.
While it does not have the gamebreaking potential as the sword & board, it does get the job done. I actually prefer 2h over S&B because I get a lot of mobility in my fighting or rather, I that's how I like my fights.
In case you aren't aware, you can train your Blocking skills with 2h. It even benefits from bashing perks.
For your fps issues, do a search on this forums on that. We do have fixes which I can't name at the top of my head.
The only knight type of character I have ever made was a paladin, so he was using one handed weapons + either shield or Restoration spell in left hand.
I will prattle about those mages instead.
Judging from the post above, when you comment about Breton resistances, I guess that you just are not moving enough around your enemies. Low level mages are also very fragile and they need something to distract enemies. Use either followers, Illusion spells or conjuration spells to create those distractions and you should be fine.
For example:
I was once travelling alone from College of Winterhold to Whiterun. I was attacked by bandits, but my illusion spells were still too weak to affect them and I didn't have Impact perk for Destruction spells. There was no way that I could have beaten them.
So I used Fury spells to goats around me. Animals attacked against bandits and distracted them long enough for me to fry them with my spells. Of course I then had to run around the glacier, while avoiding those angry goats, until Fury finally ended...
