M'aiq The Liar
I remember a discussion talking about Argonians and their lifespan. Now I've only played Oblivion and Skyrim despite owning Morrowind I've just never got around to it. But I know M'aiq is in Oblivion is he in any other TES games??? Cause that is one old cat. As old as any living mer or Argonian.

The only way you could possibly know that is if you're on Bethesda's writing team. Are you on Bethesda's writing team? No? Then shut your cakehole.

Bethesda's writing team are a bunch of hacks that couldn't write themselves out of a wet paper bag. I could do better than them.
And I wouldn't include silly, 4th wall breaking characters.

Clearly not a role player. You see this is what makes the game for some of us. To some the role playing is just pointless and ignorant. To others it's just something we love. Learning the lore and guessing and debating and random things that lore doesn't explain or is vague on. Like M'aiq the Liar appearing so much or how long do Argonians live since they are basically infused with Magicka from the histsap.
Seeing as he references things that would not be known inside of the game, the only logical conclusion is 4th wall.
However, considering the lore, I suppose it IS possible he's something similar to Vivec.
But either way, he's not written into any story, and has always been just a fun, pointless little trivia bot.

Random aggression aside, M'aiq doesn't seem to be lying in anything he says in Skyrim. It's mostly references to Skyrim, the earlier TES games, or other games.

If we base it on that, we can assume he's telling the truth when he said that his father and grandfather were also named M'aiq which would explain a lot. In a role-playing perspective though, the character wouldn't understand the references which may explain why he's called "the Liar".

But yeah, I'm not on the writing team either.

In a role-playing perspective he's never called "the Liar".
That's just in his name, and is never actually said by a single person including himself.
So he's just "Ma'iq".

He does, in fact, say it himself:

Some say Alduin is Akatosh, some say M'aiq is a Liar. Don't you believe either of those things.

He is not calling himself a Liar. He is not using it as a title. He's just saying other people say he is a liar.
There's a difference.

Edit: It also makes sense, because from a role playing perspective, he's babbling nonsense half the time, so of course people will call him a liar.

Are you being dense on purpose? Or are you just on a contrary mood?

If other people call him a liar, then it's a title other people give him. The capitalization on "Liar" is from M'aiq's dialogue which means it is a title. Perhaps not something he gave himself or uses himself, but a title he acknowledges people call him.

Isn't that what I already said? -_-

And you, as a character, not as a player, know this how?
Then again, from my own point, since to your perspective, he would just be babbling nonsense, so you as a character could easily attribute the title of "liar" to him.
But you could also attribute the title of "crazy" to him, which would likely be more appropriate.

Well, you certainly seem to know just about everything there is to know about everything, don't you. What you fail to realise is that roleplayers are quite capable of forming their own theories, and stories, and are also able to then carry them over from previous iterations of the same, or similar, games. You really ought to run for Senator because, according to you, only your opinion counts for anything and because you also think you know what's best for everyone else too.

What point is that? Is it a Viewpoint? A Standpoint? - followed by "since to your perspective" Geez, that's some pretty diabolical nonsensical grammar right there Ah, I see... Now I get it. You were just babbling nonsense. lol - very good, very funny indeed.

Yes, and he also lies about as many things as possible.
Maybe his whole family was named M'aiq.
Maybe he's immortal.
Hell if we'll ever know.
Maybe he is a daedra lord ?

Perhaps he's Hermaeus Mora. How else would he have so much hidden knowledge?

He's Smith the Horse reborn as a Khajit.

For all any character would know M'aiq could be a disguise of Sheogorath who tells unprovable half-truths to set people on the path to madness. Not that I particularly believe this, but some daedric lords just like to mess with mortals.
