Saving indoors or outdoors
I read somewhere that your saves are safer when saving indoors. If ever you have any idea why, then why is this so?

It is indeed safer to save indoors. This is because the indoor 'cells' as locations are called, are entirely self contained and generally static, they only contain the information about things contained within it which is a lot less information and referances then outdoor cells which are far more interconnected and have a lot more going on.

So, please do correct me if I am wrong, saving outdoors can cause your save to crash more often due to more 'cells' being generated and processed?

Where you save generally wont have a massive effect on the stability of your game, if you are doing hard saves, as the game is pretty good at loading a lot of information.
But if you are on a weaker computer, have a lot of heavy mods or world editing items, or are in a town where there is alot of scripts running, saving inside and then having moving to the outside as your secondary loading screen instead of the first one from the menu can lighten the load on the game a little, and also give it more time to run scripts and collect data in the proper order, rather then having to load it exactly as it was right off. Its less about crashing, and more just about the background processes of the game. For just a normal player, the difference isnt something that you would notice and you dont have to go out of your way to find an indoor area to save in :)

One thing you should keep in mind instead, is that quicksaves are generally not all that reliable and can cause problems with scripts not loading properly, and that autosaves should only be used as backups, with hard saves via the menu or the console being your primary save method.

Ah I see. Thanks for clearing that up. It's a good thing I never quicksave. I even turned off autosaves as it makes me load loading screens slower. Also, I normally do hard saves... a lot... it even acts as my 'autosave', I mean, whenever I enter doors, surpass a certain puzzle, or even after wiping out a room of draugrs, I make a hard save already. I make around 20 - 25 hard saves in one single quest depending on how long the quest is and how threatening the area is. Currently, I have 787 hard saves on my new character lol. Anyway, thanks for the information!

Youre welcome. Hope it cleared it up for you.

For the reasons Nazenn already stated I 'always' save before going back outside and when I do save outside I ensure that I've left sufficient time for the game to settle down - for want of a better description. All autosaves are disabled, including "on menu". Quicksaves never used.
It's just a position I've adopted when playing 'any' Bethesda game - seems to work for me :D

the navmesh is the biggets part of this problem.
outside navmesh is very important and eat lots of ram. inside navmesh are very less important. keep in mind navmesh is the biggest part of the game, they are everywhere and that the tip take the most important part of the game and time to load

as comparison
bannered mare indoor = around 300 triangles of navmesh
bannered mare outside front = around 300 just for the place around the center wheel/market

(no, texture is not the biggest part loaded of the game)

Textures, meshes and navmeshs are all dynamically loaded, not saved into memory data, and they all take up a lot of space and loading information definitely, which is more of an issue with memory management rather then save game stability.
Its scripts that are the issue with saves though because saving in the middle of a complicated script can sometimes cause problems if that script isnt properly loaded back into the game when you load a save can run into a number of problems with the papyrus system. That sort of malfunction is rare, but just due to the amount of information being loaded by the game, its more likely to occur outside.

Worth mentioning: If introducing a new mod into your save game, you should definitely make sure you are in an inside cell far away from any areas that the mod edits. Such as waterfalls for example, go to a house in riften where theres no waterfalls that will be loaded in the immediate vacinity as that provides the most stable platform for the game to swap over to the new set of data.

Usually if you have lots of textures and animations mods when you load a game that saved in the exterior it will simply crash.

Too much to load.

Easy way to fix it is to just type "coc qasmoke" in the main menu and from that cell load your game that was saved in the exterior. It will load in 99% cases.

No need to run into the interiors just to save game.
