Making Skyrim More Controller Friendly
Okay, so I've been trying to play the PC version of Skyrim using a controller, however the only one I have is a PS3 controller, and the only way that I've found to use it is to map its button presses onto the corresponding keys (WASD for the left stick, etc.).

This works fine, however unlike the console version of the game there are many parts of the interface that don't work well with this setup. For example, when talking to an NPC it's only possible to move up and down the conversion options using movement controls if the mouse cursor is hovering near the character's name. Likewise, certain messages such as confirmation boxes when crafting, don't support the standard keyboard shortcuts for accepting/declining, forcing me to use the mouse cursor to click the option I want. Another example is the pause menu, with its tabs for the journal, stats and system; I can move up and down the options fine, but I have to click on the heading I want to switch to the journal etc.

Are there are any mods or settings that would allow me to make Skyrim's interface more controller friendly? I really just need more of the menus to work with keyboard shortcuts, such that I can access them in a way similar to how the console ports of the game are played.

I believe that SkyUI may have improved controller support, but is it the only option? I don't really want to change the interface so drastically, and I don't currently have script extender installed.

Well for starters, you can try installing your ps3 controller properly via the above setup instead of just mapping the buttons.
DO NOT use motionjoy. It is unsafe. Only use the method in the video above.

SkyUI is by far the best way to improve controller support because it fixes some bugs when remapping controls. If you dont like it you can also install SkyUI Away which just reverts the menus but keeps the SkyUI stuff such as the MCM

I also recommend this mod which has some better mapping, but requires you to properly install your ps3 controller via the video above first for it to work

Skyrim was made with controllers in mind... SkyUI makes it more KB/Mouse friendly.
The problem is you're using a PS3 controller...
My Skyrim works perfectly with the XBOX 360 controller.

This was a huge help, thanks! Works just as well as on the console, except it looks much better and I can run mods, or at least I will be able to if Valve/Bethesda fix the current mod loading problems from Steam Workshop =D

That tutorial I provided means that ALL games will now detect your ps3 controller as a 360 controller and set it up accordingly so it should help you with any other games you play on pc with a controller as well
No more button mapping or anything else :)

I would also recommend following mods. They will spare PC players from a lot of fustration, but I hear they are even more valuable for peoples playing the game with controller.
