First you need to unpack the Skyrim - Textures.bsa into a seperate location. If you use MO for your mod manager it has a feature built in to do this. Otherwise you will have to grab the BSA unpacker from the nexus or some other utility. You will also need a image program capable of opening up .dds files which is the texture format for skyrim. Photoshop can with the help of a plugin, and paint.net can but I'm not sure about any others.

You want the files textures\clutter\ingrediants\genericpotion01.dds, genericpotion01_n.dds genericpotion01_em.dds for the potions and poisonbottle.dds, poisonbottle_n.dds and poisonbottle_em.dds for the poisons. frostbite poison also has its own texture (for no apparent reason besides bethedsa decided that would be smart) under the ingrediants folder called frostbitevenom01.dds and frostbitevenom01_n.dds

Just edit those textures, save them, and import them into your Data folder under the same folder structure and name to get them in game. No creation kit use nessisary at all :)

Hope that helps.
(If you are NOT planning to ever redistribute the files to others, you could also grab one of the potion retextures from the nexus instead of unpacking the bsa. However, if you want to redistribute your files as a mod for others to use you would need permission to be gained before hand)

If you just want it for practice then and dont plan on reuploading, just grab one of the layouts from the nexus to edit, such as Silly Level of Detail or Rustic Potions and Poisons. :)

It will also give you an idea on how the files have to be set up to work properly etc.
Keep in mind, with potions, the color of the bottle is actually set by the mesh, not the texture, so you wont have control over what the color of the actual potion is unless you edit the mesh via nifskope.

okay ill keep that in mind.
im not going to make any potion or poison mods i was reffering to retexturing one of the bottles from the black briar mead company. so i'll try and find something on the nexus :)

Oh, black briar mead? I dont know that it uses those textures. I think that has its own texture, so you might need to find a bottle retexture off the nexus as I dont actually know where those files are located off the top of my head, and while I do have a retexture for it, I dont know which one of my texture mods actually does it so I cant even easily check for you unfortunetly

Let me know if you need any more help with file formats or folder layouts. :)

Find out where one is located ingame, fire up the Creation Kit, go to the cell and find the object, find it's mesh (.nif file).

Extract just that .nif file (I use FOMM, very easy to search for a single file) from Skyrim - Meshes.BSA

Fire it up in Nifskope, look for its texture under NiTriShape>NiTriShapeData > BSShaderTextures, it'll list it's texture(s)

Extract the texture from Skyrim - Textures.BSA in the same way

Edit with Photoshop or Gimp (with .dds plugin) > save as .dds file choose YES to export MipMaps & DXT compression, 1 or 5

Copy to skyrim\data\textures\whatever\the\filepath\is

done. Enjoy :)
