Can't start Dawnguard to save my life...

I know I bought the dlc. Talked to the guards, I unchecked and checked the box, downloaded it. Cleared my bounties (eastmarch had a bounty of 2, resorted to using a code for that), tried the code to summon that orc. Don't have the slightest idea of what I'm forgetting to do. Any help would be appreciated!

Well you should be level 10. Any guard in Riften (or major hold if I remember) should dialougue the quest after that. If you have actually bought n downloaded correctly.

Must be level 9, the orc from dawnguard will approach and talk to you and guards mention it

I've had this issue a few times, in random instances. Try doing what I did: fast travel to a city (riverwood is fine. works really well there), and wait for an hour. If he doesn't show up, wait again. Usually he pops up to say hello after 1-6 hours of waiting. I do this with couriers too if I know they're going to be hunting me down (buying the house in Falkreath, getting the Mehrune's Razor daedric quest, etc).

Check `downloadable content`` on main screen maybe to see if you really have it. Or find Dayspring canyon near Rifton. You are SURE U have it right...lolz

Hmmm. I don't think he's died, as he's Essential until he gives you the quest... I dunno man. Usually I fix this by fast travelling to a far away point and back, or waiting for a few hours. Go poke a bunch of guards in Riften maybe? See if any of them say anything about the "New Vampire Hunting Group In The Old Fort, Near Riften." Maybe rent a room and sleep for 24 hours? Little things like that are enough to 'fix' missing NPCs, if not, there is actually a problem and not just "Bob got stuck on a blade of grass, he'll be here in a few hours."

You can either wait until level 10 and the orc will begin stalking you in every town until he ambushes you with recruitment or you can take the initiative and go to Fort Dawnguard and join the Dawnguard at any level.

I scoured the place were the canyon should be, and there's no opening to enter. :(

I am level 32 at the moment in this play through. I have the orc standing out in front of breezehome everytime I go back to Whiterun. Haven't started the DLC other than talk to him and said I wasn't interested in it.
Presume you have the unofficial patches installed.

If the Dayspring Canyon isn't there, then you didn't download/install Dawnguard correctly. That's the problem. Your game isn't recognizing that you have Dawnguard. Try uninstalling/reinstalling it.
