How high a level do I need to complete Meridia's quest?
I'm at level 12.5. While heading WNW to complete another quest, I stumbled into the Bleakwind Bluff ruins, killed the Forsworn occupants, moved into a chamber, looted a strange gem, then Meridia spoke to me and gave me the Break of Dawn quest.

It seems like a very difficult, complicated but rewarding quest. I'm a thief with 50 sneak, a 20 hit point bow, a backstab perk, and Lydia as a follower (who rushes into battle unless I tell her to wait. Somtimes this is good, sometimes, bad.)

Should I go for Meridia's quest right away or level up higher? I presume the multiple necromancers will level up with with me?

Would appreciate advice from more experienced players who know about Meridia. TIA

use your bow while Lydia goes in, but don't hit her or she will die

upgrade your bow

OK, thanks for the quick responses! I didn't know about the UESP Wiki but I finally found the suggested level you mentioned. The site seems to be hard to navigate. But maybe it's because I'm new to it. I've been searching elderscrolls, Skyrim walkthrough wiki.

New questions.

If I have the quest but wait until I'm lvl 24, will Meridia be mad that I'm delaying the quest?
If I go to the previous save game (after defeating the Forsworn) and leave the Gem in the ruins, will it stay there so I can start the quest later?
If the game won't keep the gem at Bleakwind Bluff, should I just try to find the quest again after lvl 24?

If I install amazing Follower "tweaks"...you mean a mod? Will I have to start over? Where do I get this tweak?

wait til level 24, just go and do whatever you want, the quest WILL wait for you, that gem is with you now-it weights nothing-just ignore it in your inventory.

I don't honestly find it a hard quest at all. Simply do it whenever you want. Dawnbreaker also isn't leveled so there isn't any reason to wait for that either.

You can safely install AFT midgame, no need to start a new one. You can get it here:

I did it at level 10. I admit I used Barbas as my meat shield. With him it was a cakewalk.

Wait a second, level 24? No wonder the boss of the quest was so hard when I tried to do this quest at level 13.

Crapmonster, I created an acct. w/nexus, d/l AFT to a separate Skyrim download folder, read the text file, installed 7z920-64.msi file extractor, and found he path for my W7 64bit, which is:
E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim. I have no other mods in my data cache.

Please provide me with any other info you think I need to consider. After your response, I'll install the mod.

I like the features of AFT but I want to make sure I don't screw up my vanilla game. TIA. Your help is most appreciated.

Thanks to all for their input.

Trigger, I looked at "best bows" on YouTube but the all seem hard to access. I'm searching for Arkngthamz's Zephyr bow but I'm having trouble pinpointing that location.

What might you suggest as an improved bow for a lvl 12 Dark Elf thief?
Trigger Mar 31, 2015 @ 11:43pm
it's on a fallen tree, walk out on tree to get the bow=shots 30% faster then any bow in game, make sure to upgrade the bow at a sharpening wheel.
Trigger Mar 31, 2015 @ 11:48pm
sounds like you have not started to craft your own weapons and/or armor yet, much better protection crafting your own armor and much higher damage to weapons.

Trigger, right, I found out about the tree but I can't find Arkngthamz on the map or what's near it so I could wander around from nearby locations and find Arkgnthamz.

u can do it at any level starting from lvl 12. easy peasy quest, if you know how to crowd control or how to do effective AoE dmg...

Alchemy! I would continue on with the main quest until you learn the paralysis and lingering damage health potions. You should have some frost resistance against Malkoran too.
