Sneak skill stopped working effectively, glitch?
For some reason, my sneak suddenly sucks. I used to be able to remain undetected even when people were standing in front of me after I shot them, but now they easily detect me from metres away.

Here's a few things I've done before I noticed the change:

- Finish Thieves' Guild quest line.
- Took Shadow Cloak power from Nocturnal.
- Changed follower to Aela instead of Lydia.
- Changed to Nightingale armour from Thieve's Guild armour.
- Reached level 44 and have a sneak skill of 100.

Would any of these affect it?

Is the Sneak still 100, or did you make it Legendary by accident?

Still 100, it sure is acting like it though. But no, still 100 with all the perks I selected.

Do you have any mods that can affect the sneak?

No, just got a couple of mods for putting quest indicators on items and changing some aesthetics. Nothing major though.

your sneak is at 100, but have you being applying perks to the sneak tree

Yep, filled up the first skill and gone all the way up the long branch to get things like ignore armour class and ignore running etc.
from what I see, Aela has better sneak stats then Lydia. Did you dress them the same way?

Actually, it's funny, I gave Aela my Thieves' Guild gear which she wears, should technically be sneakier on top of that.

I tried reloading as well, still having creatures detect me the moment I shoot them with an arrow, whereas before they'd have to search a bit.

You may just be facing higher level enemies with better detection.

I thought that for a moment, but then I remembered that Draugr Deathlords were having trouble even finding me before, but now even basic Draugr are just like "Hi there!"

Ugh, I think it's a major bug, but since I'm still surviving without effective sneak, it might be worth just making it legendary now since it's useless anyway and reap the points.

It just suddenly started working again, I added a the level 100 perk and it went back to how it worked before, perhaps the perks innately influence detection chances even if they don't say so.

Actually, I additionally stopped using Nightingale Bow for a bit in exchange for my enchanted ebony one. They're both ebony class I think, why does that make a difference?

Nope, started acting weird again.

I had this issue as well and turns out its a bug. It is not actually stealthing you so to npcs you are standing. This can be fixed by sitting in a chair. However i have found that when i load a save the glitch comes back and i have to find a chair again.
