In What Time Would Skyrim Take Place In Real Life?
I know Skyrim takes place in another universe on a plannet called Nirn etc.

But in what time would Skyrim take place if it was in real life.

Around 800 AD?

What do you think?

Ha, that video is v good!

It's a bit of a mishmash of various periods, sanitised in some ways, bloodied up in others I guess. I'd say it's 'inspired by' periods kind of anywhere between around 7-800 and 14-1500 AD?

Frankly, it's not a good idea to compare the Aubric Timeline with Humanity's Timeline. A small, little known fact save for those who research the eldritch depths of ES lore:

Nirn isn't progressing, it's RE-gressing!

While you can compare the current aesthetics of Skyrim's time with that of our world, yes, you could say late middle ages, but if you went back, things actually seem to be advancing. H&ll, the First Era had lunar colonies, magic lasers, a "cyborg" from the future (5th-9th era), and a good retention of advanced magics that could split gods in two. Merethic Era, there was a technique developed by the Ra'Gada of Yokuda called the Pantakasword that sank the entire continent.
Now? Jarl Balgruuf goes 'OMGZ dem catapults! We're gonna die!'. Lost knowledge, ya know?

Sorry for sounding a bit rant-y, I'm just tired of seeing comparisons between our world and the Aurbis.

Just remember, TES is more Sci-fantasy than what could be called "Tolkienism"

But, if anyone was asking, I believe recorded history has lasted about 6,9__ years, so.....I don't have a clue.

Edit: That's two digit places after the 9, BTW

I would say at most a century before 476 A.D. That is when the Western Roman Empire fell, and the Tamrielic Empire seems to be loosely based on the Roman. Before it fell the Western Roman Empire was in decline, as the Tamrielic is in Skyrim. Wracked by civil war, invasions, etc. And the city guard helmets are based on a Viking design. The Germanic barbarian tribes that the Vikings descended from had a less sophisticated, but similar helmet at the time.

It's in the mail :squirtyay:
It would definitely be in ancient Rome/Greek times. When they believed in multiple Gods and monsters. Like the time of Achilles and ♥♥♥♥.

It's a bit hard to define because every race and culture has their own level of technological advancement and cultural growth. Additionally, they've regressed and progressed at various degrees and you also have to consider how magic fits in.

To make it simple, I'll answer your question in relation to Skyrim and I'd say roughly 5th Century standards, the Empire is basically a collapsed Rome, a bunch of people are living in dinky little shacks everywhere and the Aldmeri Dominion is like the beginnings of the Carolingian Empire.

But to be broad about your question, the Dwemer were building giant robots and we can't even do that yet, so *shrug*.

To be fair, the Dwemer are quite stigmitized, given that they had such advanced technology, yet they disappeared, likely because of it. Ergo, following in the footsteps of the Dwemer would possibly lead to the annihilation of your entire race. On top of that, those who've attempted to unlock the secrets of the Dwemer have been lost in the process (Septimus Sigmus, Arniel, the book "Lost to the Ages", etc.)

I think it takes place in the time during the fall of the Roman Empire. Because we get a hint of that when in the game it mentions the Empire almost collapsing because of constant invading, just like the Roman Empire IRL. Also we notice the specific words used in the game. The celtic tribes, around 400's AD used a language called Elder Futhark. And in Skyrim they use the word Draugr, which in Elder Futhark, means ghost or undead. There are also many other aspects that you see that make this statement pretty concete. So I would say in real life, Skyrim takes place in the 400's to 1100's AD

Considering the armor types and ships of the period, a rough comparison would place Skyrim in our timeline somewhere between 150 BC - 900 AD. A time of the Viking period also as the golden age of the Roman empire is falling.
That was also the time of "The dark age" after a cataclysmic event turned the world's climate into a minor ice age. (In part paradoxically speaking could be why Atmora became uninhabitable due to the extreme cold there)
