Npc suddenly dead
The blacksmith in Whiterun died. Afaik only dragons can kill npcs, and they only show up after you finish the quest. I haven't even bothered doing the dragon quest in the west tower yet. I walked out of my house one day and the courier gave me an inheritance and she stopped appearing ever since. What killed her?

Do you have dawnguard installed? Vampires will spawn near the gates and sometimes they kill NPCs.

Also, anything can kill NPCs. Anything.
Occasionally, in Markarth, for some bizarre reason they spawn high in the air and fall to their deaths.

Was she your follower? That is the only way you can get an inheritance. And you can kill followers.

Incorrect. Anyone who considers the player character a friend will grant an inheritance on their death.

If you delivered her sword to her father in Dragonsreach, the blacksmith will consider you a friend.

I hate vampires. The only sellers in Whiterun left are Eorlund Grey Mane, the guy in The Drunken Huntsman, and the apothecary lady. Forget her name. Everybody else died in a vampire attack at one time or another.

The solution to your woes.

Personally, I wish it didn't come to this, but the guards in Skyrim are anemic and so vampires easily kick their ass... and the civilians are too stupid to flee for their lives without a script-heavy(ish) mod telling them to get their butts into shelter. And even then it's glitchy.

I only have the base version installed. Of the big quests, I have only done the forsworn prison one, and the marriage one. I have barely started on the thieves guild. The only contact I have with the dark brotherhood is an assassin that tried to kill me. I'm a werewolf in the companion, but I haven't continued that quest since that one guy died. I only advanced the dragon quest enough to be able to buy a house, I haven't even fought any dragons at all. I've been mostly advancing the time trying to level up smithing.

I know I can mod/command console them, but I still want to know how they could've died, when dragons shouldn't be roaming around in my game. I haven't transformed into a werewolf for months.

Run For Your Lives - NPC's head for shelter when dragons attack.
When Vampires Attack - NPC's head indoors. I have found it needs to be near the end of my load order.

When Vampires Attack is actually kinda infamous for being glitchy. Also I think it hasn't been updated in awhile. And if you have script lag, it can make it even glitchier.

I don't know about Run For Your Lives, though.

When Vampire Attack v2.0.5 was updated 15th March 2015.

Oh, neat. Glad it updated, then.

I think I still prefer my previous one, though... though it's mostly if you're using a difficulty overhaul mod that adds really tough vampire bosses... which are the types of vampires that spawn with Dawnguard.

Timing is Everything mod will let you set the level at which Dawnguard and Dragonborn attacks appear.

Even beggars will leave you a 1000 gold on their death, heh. Guess they weren't so poor afterall....
