Can't get the Dragonrider achievement?
I've got all three DLC's, and I've used console commands quite a few times, which I know is known to be the cause of sometimes not unlocking achievements.
I've kept reading over and over that to get the achievement(s) after using console commands, you need to restart the game and not use any cc while trying to get the achievements for the rest of the session, and this has worked for just about everyone. Not me.

I've tried this several times, even starting a new save/character to go through the whole Dragonborn storyline with (without console commands), and still not getting the achievement. By now I've lost count of all the dragons I've tried to ride. (different ones, I know it doesn't count if you simply re-shout the same dragon to do your bidding).

I do know all the words for the shout, and I've ridden a whole bunch of dragons, yet I never get the achievement. I've tried riding different ones (like frost, fire, revered, and so on), but to no avail.

This is the last achievement I need to have completed them all, and I've been stuck with this one for the past 6months, maybe longer, and it's driving me crazy.

Anyone know any way around this, to unlock this achievement?

do you have all 3 words of the shout BEND WILL, all 3 words allow you to tame a dragon and then ride him
Trigger Mar 26, 2015 @ 2:02pm
you get the words from the dragonborn dlc

I forgot to say, but yes, I do know all the words, and I've ridden a whole bunch of dragons, yet I never get the achievement. I've tried riding different ones (like frost, fire, revered, and so on), but to no avail.

(I'll copy+paste this reply to the main topic)

No, I still haven't found any solutions, and I'm still without that single achievement :/

My Dragonrider achievement has just triggered; not sure that the dragon you ride as part of the Miraak questline counts (when you first learn the third word), but I rode a couple of dragons in Solstheim and three or four in Skyrim. I went round the dragon walls I'd cleared to find dragons, so they don't need to be encounters and there were definately two Revered Dragons in there too, so I don't think they need to be different types either.

I've definately used console commands (Lydia kept getting lost :steamfacepalm:), so don't think that would be the issue unless some cc's are ok and others trigger a 'cheat' toggle... I always thought that it only mattered for the session you were in anyway, so if you saved, closed Skyrim, restarted Skyrim, then reloaded the save, you still earn achievements.

If you have definately ridden more than five dragons and didn't use cc's in these sessions, perhaps you were 'offline' when you triggered the achievement and Steam's not picked it up? I know you say you've done the questline with a new character, but if you've still got a save from before you learned the third word (or a clean save from a friend that's got the achievement?), it might be worth loading that up and trying to get the achievement again?

spawning dragons through console and riding them doesn't provide, also riding the same dragon 5 times also doesn't give the achievement. I also took a trip through Skyrim for dragons at word walls and did ride them, but the achiev didn't unlock. Also, the achiev doesn't mention to be rided in a single session, i`m sure i did ride over 20 dragons over my total time, and i always play steam online because i want the playing time recorded :D

You definately don't need to ride the dragons in a single session. I've only ridden three or four dragons max. in a single session, so Skyrim will save the number of dragons you've ridden from one session to the next. I'm not sure that Skyrim will save your progress toward achievements if you use the console though; if you ride, say, three dragons, then use the console, Skyrim may wipe these three successful rides from your progress. Without knowing the mechanics of how Skyrim registers console commands and achievement progress, I'm only guessing here, but if you're regularly using the console, you might need to ride five seperate dragons without using console commands at any point from your first to your fifth successful ride? As said above, I believe that console commands prevent achievements being earned; using the console to spawn a dragon to ride would therefore not count toward the achievement.

Riding the same dragon five times also would not count; you need to 'Tame and ride 5 dragons' which would suggest that they do need to be different dragons to count. Looking into online achievement guides, the 'At the Summit of Apocrypha' dragon does count, so I don't think that random encounter dragons count, as I'm pretty sure I had more that 5 dragon rides before the achievement actually popped.

I think that the achievement triggers at the location where you successfully first tamed the dragon (i.e. at the word wall like a 'dungeon cleared' marker, only not displayed on the map), rather than counting the number of dragons you've actually ridden. So, if you tend to farm a dragon at one or two word walls, each ride past the first won't count. Also, the random spawns would not be linked to a specific location, so wouldn't count either... My suggestion, if you're hunting this achievement, would be to visit each word wall in turn and ride the dragon there. Some will resist your shout, and some word walls don't seem to have a dragon every time, so you'll need to go to more than 5 walls. It might be worth noting down the places you successfully ride the dragons at and not to go back to the same place once you've ridden the 'resident' dragon. Let me know if it works? Another thing I can think of would be that you've got a mod installed which messes with dragons and is preventing the achievement from correctly unlocking; if scouting the word walls does not work, check your mod list and try unloading any that affect dragons? Finally, it might be that your game's passed the threshold for triggering the achievement (i.e. you've ridden 5+ dragons), but it did not register for some reason... In this case, if you've got one, I'd suggest you load a save from before you completed 'At the Summit of Apocrypha' on a clean session with any dragon-modding mods disabled, then hit the word walls once you unlock the shout...

I really have no idea at this point tbh. I've gotten most of the other achievements AFTER using console commands - like getting the highest bounty in all the holds; I used the 'tgm/god mode' cheat before turning into a werewolf and then do so in all the holds - still got the achievement, so not sure if the "not getting achievement because of console commands"-thing really is a thing or not? :S
Also used console commands to get achievements 50% or so, so in that case it really should work with this single achievement as well... /sighs heavily ._.''

if you use the console to get the achievement is not anymore an "achievement", just something you took because it was there

Maybe, but it still says on my profile that I've gotten all the achievements I know I've used the console to get.

So if the problem being with the Dragonrider achievement, that I can't get it if I've used console commands, then why I did I still get all the others? :S

as said above, it's very probable that a mod that modifies dragons can interfene with it, maybe the achiev is made to work with vanilla dragons, and so, by modifying even a little the vanilla ones, it will not count when you use the shouts
Phoenix Nov 22, 2015 @ 9:39am
Thinking back, I think I got the Daedric Artifact achievement after cc'ing to get Azura's Star and the Black Star, so I might be mistaken on thinking the console blocks achievements...

That said, I still think the achievement may be be tied to the locations, so it might be worth going round the word walls again with a clean save?

theres a mod that can unlock any achievement instantly. I used it to solve this one, i dont remember the mod name. It added to the game a room with buttons, and when you use a button it pops the achievement, has this for any other achievement.
