Skyrim failing to install? Missing executables
I bought Skyrim yesterday, but it does not install properly. After several times reinstalling and contacting steam support, I decided to see if any of you know what to do. So heres my problem:
I installed the game, the files are in my C drive. However, when I tried to play, it gave me error ´missing executables´. So I read up on how to fix this and I verified game cache. Now it gave me an update, but after I download the required update it comes right back. The update is 1 MB big, but at some point it was 1 GB. When I press download the update downloads but I still need to download it again to play.
Anyone have a fix for this? I used to play Skyrim through a cracked version, if this is important.

Try to validate files again, but this time with refreshed cache and registry.

- Exit Steam
- Go to Steam folder and remove folder named appcache

- Clear your registry with your favorite tool. I am using the free version of CCleaner.

- Close your computer. Let it actually shut down, before starting it again.
- Start Steam. It will now load a few seconds, while creating a new appcache folder for you.

- Verify Integrity of Game Cache...

That indeed could be an issue. Un-installing any software still can leave a lot of left-overs on a computer. Maybe they interfere. Especcially if you have used more cracked software then only Skyrim, do yourself a favour and perform a Clean Re-install of your computer.

To do everybody a favour, go to the manufacturers Support and report on the crack-key you used (if you still have it or at least know where you got it) so they can block it or perhaps block the entire series of involved keys.

Did you install directly to Cdrive or is that just a short way of writing "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim" for that's where the game is supposed to install.

I am not exactly a fan of advising to clean the Registry with any tool, on a public forum. It's clear Ilja knows a lot about computers so he'll know what he's doing but registry cleaning can be harmfull to a computer when the user doesn't know much about this.

CCleaner is one safe tool to use for the purpose he need to run it.
It will remove all tracers of the old installation.

Worrying about registry cleaning is always valid. However, CCleaner does not display any registry entries that have corresponding files in hard drive. User needs to do manual work first, by deleting the junk from HD.

This is why I feel safe to recommend it for peoples that need to check their computers for problematic entries. As Uncle64 said, CCleaner is one safe tool. It requires special skills to get in to problems with that.

Of course everything is possible, but it would require messing with the core settings, while completely ignoring all ReadMe files. Only one carrying responsible from that is who ever happens to be using the tool.

Thanks for the response guys!
I used the uninstall tool from CCleaner to remove Skyrim, it disappeared from the list of applications so I figured it worked. However when I tried to reinstall Skyrim it did the exact same thing as before. Still stuck at the infinite update loop.
And yes, the C drive thingy was C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim.
How do I perform a clean reinstall of my computer? Or is there anything else I can try? Im currently entering "super desperate mode".

You should try to move your Steam installation to another folder instead of default.
Make one c:\games\ and install Steam in that instead.

You have one guide here for it.
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

Files in c:\program files\ are protected by Windows by default and that can give you problem.

One add to Grimus post about the copy part, you can use Steams own backup for the same thing.
I have one 500 gig disk full of Steam backups. It makes the life little better when reinstalling any game.
I have Steam installed in 2 separate disks
D:\games\steam
E:\games\steam

I hate to say this but I still cannot finish the update. It doesn't say '1 file' but '2 files failed to validate and will be reaquired.' Not sure if this is important but I really have no clue what this is.

steam is a joke.I have all Elderscrolls they run great.Untill I run MICROSOFT JUNK it dose not work long, update and it's dead on arivle.to much software running in background kills the boot.keep it simple stupid.it works.Microsoft want 10 next and providers of internet adds their settings, fire walls,I have been required to change pass code many times and still had problems on my account.Even retriving my account over and over till games launch It's the software and writers of it I blame.must to many irons in the fire.

i'm assuming this has been solved since it has been four months since this thread opened. this can't hurt though. if you have the iso used to install the cracked version, do a legit install from it. for instance in my iso file for skyrim i have all the legit files waiting to be installed, but i am offered two installers.

one file is named "install." that is the cracked installer. the other is called "setup," which is the official steam installer, & even has the steam logo as the icon. do a clean install of the game with the steam installer, and all should load right up correctly.

i only have an iso of skyrim so i don't have to download it from steam every time... my download speeds are super slow averaging 142kb a second. always buy your games people! unless EA makes them, then ef them. down with origin! lol.
