Not *quite* what I'm looking for... not to mention I'm already running with S.P.E.R.G. XD I'm actually rolling with SXP again, trying to see if I'll experience any of these glitches I've heard of. So far, nothing. Oh, I did turn S.P.E.R.G.'s "gain skills for quests" feature off, among other things.
SXP... isn't bad so far.
EDIT: Are you serious why is S.P.E.R.G. censored without the periods?
I think there should have been other bonuses too. Being part of a fighter's guild should let you raise combat skills faster, mage's guild magic skills faster, etc.
I know. Furthermore, there's absolutely no such thing for Morrowind, which would have been good for that game.
Problem for you is that this isn't Oblivion.
Oblivions leveling system was a terrible mash and pretty much anything is better, even a crappy old DnD style XP system. This isn't true for Skyrim which has a system that, whilst not perfect, is one of the best implementations of a sensible levelling system.
Smack person in face with stick = getting better at smashing people with sticks.
That's infinitely better than the old "ding" you now get to put points into skills that you didn't use to earn that XP.
And make sure to grab the SXP Training fix

Or it's a video game and video games don't always have to have realistic progressions because different things work.
So no, it's not "infinitely better." It might be better for you, and it might even be better for me, but there are some cases where, believe it or not, the "ding" method is better for some people. And that's perfectly acceptable. And if you can't accept that, that's your problem.
Go to Kolskeggr mine. Get tons of gold (18 veins + 3 loose ore + 4 ingots = 32 gold ingots and one spare ore). Make jewelry. Far faster and easier than grinding daggers like a noob and finding jewels isn't too hard for some of the better jewelry. This also aids enchanting as enchanted jewelry sells for significant amounts, which then boosts your speech... So there you go, instead of grinding the easiest thing possible you learn to do things intelligently and you make gains in multiple skills.
Plus it ONLY gives you xp in smithing (and enchanting/speech if you do the rest). Unlike a traditional system where you can get better a smithing witout ever making anything.
I also like making Dwarven bows. Free if you clear a few Dwemer ruins and pick up all smeltable scrap metal and then go mining for iron, very cheap if you buy the iron. Plus it feels like a task that would actually be quite good for learning weapon making skills, as there's both fiddly detail and strength of the weapon involved in making one of those bows.
True enough. It's less grinding, but still grinding, and not my understanding of 'fun'. YMMV...
The beauty of SXP -yes, I'm biased- is it's high configurability. You can setup a 100% SXP configuration. You can split the xp: n% the traditional way, m% to SXP. If you feel, that raising smithing without ever crafting anything is 'unimmersive' you can setup the SXP gain for smithing to 0 and 100% for traditional skill gain. You can tweak each and every skill to your liking. In that sense it's highly superior to Oblivion XP which is all or nothing.
