Help thread: Creation Kit\Workshop update problem
About the problem

There was a Creation Kit\Workshop update that raised the size limit from mods in Skyrim Workshop. This has messed up mod subscriptions and caused problem among players.

Skyrim version itself has not been changed and there have not been changes to Skyrim gaming engine. Mod problems with other sources than Workshop are not related to Creation Kit\Workshop update.

What happened during the update?
  • The previous size limit of mods was lifted. Workshop can now handle larger mods than before.

  • Managing of Workshop mods was changed from Skyrm launcher to Steam.

  • New: Steam had previously changed it's API. Skyirm was still using the old API function and Bethesda moved to fix the matter, as expected by Steam.

  • New: Current version will support master files being uploaded to Workshop.

  • New: Unofficial patches are now available in Workshop.

Moving mod managing from launcher to Steam seem to be the main reason causing problems to games that use mod subscription from Workshop. Your old subscriptions are pointing to wrong location and need to get directed properly.

Try this first

Refresh Your Steam Files

Do this to fix the possible probelm with Steam client update
- From Steam client: Steam > Check for Steam Client Updates...
- Restart the client.

Do this to fix the Workshop subscription problem
- Favorite mods you had been subscribed to, or write them up.
- Unsubscribe from all your mods in Skyrim Workshop.
- Open your default launcher Data Files view and delete all Skyrim Workshop mods from there.
- Subscribe to your mods again. Make sure that you subscribe to all mods that you had in your ongoing game, or your save may not work properly.
- Run LOOT to sort your load order.

If Workshop lacks mods from your list
See if they are available in Skyrim Nexus. Game does not know or care where the script data is coming from, as far it is there.

If missing mod data is not found from Workshop or Nexus
- If missing mod was not using scripts, then you can likely keep playing your game.
- If missing mod was using scripts, then it is recommended that you start a new game.

Trouble after you have parsed missing data
- Backup your save files.
- Use this tool to clean your save. Follow instructions from the description page and do not do anything else.

Great....I get to restart again...I love the game but hate to have to restart at this point. And as I have been trying multiple solutions and getting nowhere I fear this is my only recourse. If I can even get the game to run.
Maybe I'll spend a week getting Fallout 3 to work on my Win 7 machine...

/me says sarcasticly : Yeah, gonna throw away 4 chars ranging from level 16 to 81, Thank you so much Bethesda. Real sound bussiness-strategy if you ask me, Starting payed workshop with chasing away ppl from using workshopmods......

And now.... they throw away the payed mod system. All chars gone down the drain for nothing. Beware, will there be new updates undoing the previous updates, from Steam and Bethesda?!?

At least there's increased mod-size for whomever still wants to use the Workshop mods.

ya ive unsubscribed and resubscribed to the mods i want i have mods from the nexious in the data file there all there but none from steam are there at all

Well I finally bit the bullet and got rid of all the Workshop mods. (only about 10/110). Been a Nexus user for many years, felt guilty about the free use of the site and bought the supporter package. Seems like Steam and Beth won't or can't fix the Workshop problems.

Before the Rupture I had about 10-12 Ws mods. Didn't care, had been launching with MO for the entire install/playthrough, same mods, never revisted the vanilla launcher (save initial launch). By luck, totally wrapped in FO3/NV and Borderlands 1/2 so by the time this shmooz is history and hopefully sorted and buried I am going to finish Dragonborn. .

No advice to "steam://flshconfig" before the "clientregistryblob" ?

I tried checking for client updates, and it said I was up to date. I only have workshop mods, and they still don't download and appear in my data files. I'm really bad with computers so I'm probably doing something wrong...?

It is quite possible that you are not doing this wrong. Workshop has been a mess, since the CK\Workshop update that lead in to paid mods fiasco. I have no idea how to fix it, or even if we can.

It may be that companies - Valve and Bethesda - need to get a grip of themselves and fix few things, before any solution from our end would work properly.

I am suggesting that peoples move away from Workshop for now. Use Nexus and other modding sites that store data locally to your hard drive and does not directly rely on Steam and it's problems.

Sorry, that I missed this. It's been a hectic week. I just slept 11 hours, but it feels like someone is still laying bricks in front of my eyes.

I don't think that this would have any effect to mods. Isn't this a steam refresh, just like deleting appcache would refresh cache for games?

No harm in trying, though. I don't have any bugged mods from Workshop right now. If anyone is willing to try out, then please, tell us if it worked.

Or, if anyone knows how I can bug my mods, then I can try this out myself. Interesting enough, I made several attempts to bug my game with Workshop mods, when the event was "on." I never managed to do that.

Yes my mod messed up and no matter what I tried they were not working. I hesitated going to Nexus but in the end I got all my mods to work correctly plus installed some great mods that are not available on the workshop.

I fixed the problem by accident. I had never seen the new workshop "home" menu. When I went there I discovered a label "Your files" right clicked on it it gave me the option (which I have missed dearly) 'your subscribed files' clicking on this and clicking on only one file which I no longer wanted caused the entire list to re-download. I am assuming that there must be an event linked to the act of downloading from this view.

im done with skyrim so sick of this crap now mods arnt even downloading......... so stupid im just gonna wait for fallout 4 sense that was annouced and were gonna hear more of it at E3 also heard there showing it off behind close doors.

I just subscribed to one of my own mods last night, and the only thing that seemed different was that, once downloaded, it did not automatically check itself to run. Otherwise, it downloaded fine, didn't encounter any problems in it.

Is the problem that peoples' mods are unselected, or that with the change, the system doesn't know where to look for them?

Why would my system know where to look for just 1 from 49 mods and then later find 2 other mods that remain unsubscribed, as was the case for me? NMM, Loot, Boss and other tools (our systems) did not have trouble finding the mods, Steam and the game did.
