SOLVED: thane of markarth

Hi so im currently doing a save where i become thane in all the holds started with solitude then did morthal now doing Markarth but i cant seem to start the quest you need for it where your required to get a shield for the jarl anyone know how to fix this

i did a forssworn camp for both the jarl and his steward then did 5 of the ones you get from the inn still not working

i don't think its a bug or glitch. Sometimes a unrelated quest you have ongoing stops other quests progressing, I had the same trouble in Solitude. Try getting a few other Markarth quests out of the way you might have in your journal like Forsworn Conspiracy and No One Escapes Chidna Mine, or maybe the House of Horrors one or the Ring of Namira quest. Could also be something like clearing the Forsworn from Forskeggr Mine, or the Lost Expedition quest for Calcemo.

I think it actually might be the Forsworn Conspiracy and Escaping Chidna that might be stopping it progressing.

ive done escaping chidna mine and forsworn conspiracy and i know the ring of namira quest is one of the ones you can use for the 5 markarth quests you need to do same as calcelmo if its any of those it woud be house of horrors which i doubt but might as well try it ill get back to you once its done

Have you bought a house in Markarth yet or isn't the option available yet from the steward.

so 3 things
1 i dont have the house you need to do this first
2 im waiting to do civil war after im thane of whiterun which im doing next the either way im doing imperial side anyway
3 house of horrors didnt fix it

thats not the problem when i speak to him after doing the stuff you have to do the dialogue option isnt there

if i speak to the jarl the dialogue option to start the quest to find hrolfdirs shield isent ther and yes ive checked my log and looked through the misc list not there okay ive done the thing you need to do before you get the quest which is ask the jarl for work then he sends you to a forsworn camp then after you return there should be a option for more work which gives you the quest for the shield i dont get that dialogue option

so after an hour of searching the uesp ive learned taht you need to be lvl 20 to start this quest where as im lv 15 so ya

ah right - technically, you can become Thane at any level (no level requirement that I know of) - but it depends on you doing a quest you can't get till level 20.

Unless you take the city for the Stormcloaks - then you can skip that quest and go straight on to the helping 5 people part, I think.

I'm kinda in a pickle here, dont know what else to do. I've done done the conspiracy and the mine stua, couple forsworn quests, I got the house, did a few more steward bounties,helped a couple of people outside, but cant get the jarl to star the "help my people quest" so I can become thane. I noticed that I still had the lost expedition active and I completed that one as well, then I completed aanother steard bounty to kill a drago and even delivered it to the jarl instead of the steward, but still the dialoge "anything else I can do for you" does not show up...I guess I'll just have to "replace him" won't I? Any more ideas?

You definitely don't need to do the Forsworn conspiracy quest. i got Thane of Markarth on my first character and i've never done that quest, i just don't like that odious little creep who hands you the note! It was a LONG while ago and i'm afraid i can't remember any more detail than that - sorry! Just hope it hasn't been borked by doing the F.C.

I basically do everything, lol...I even did the molag bal thing to kill the poor little priest, was kinda bummed when he told me to kill him...But hey, it's a unique weapon for my wall...
Same goes for that one where you need to find evidence against the other guy worshiping Talos...
