The Elder Dragon At Skuldafn Portal (Answered)
There was a gold coloured elder dragon atop a point at the Skuldafn portal area. Despite hitting and wounding this dragon several times no attempt was made to attack me, so I let it live.

He just flew upwards and then returned to roost again each time. I killed the dragon priest, the dragon did not interfere, then completed Sovngarde quest and destroyed Alduin.

My question - Is this what happens each time, was the dragon there to report on what happened, or just an anomaly?

when you go to skuldafh, there are 4 dragon to kill for 4 dragon souls, and then Alduin

I killed 2 after Odaving left, but this dragon just wasn't interested so I let it live and killed the dragon priest instead.

Well you don't have to kill those 2 at the portal they just sit there and aren't aggressive.

I did use Dragonrend on him but as I said after hitting him with the arrows then dragonrend he just dropped back down on his rock point. No fires, frost, or interest. Maybe he was a geriatric dragon!

Two at the portal? Well I don't know where the other one was, as I only saw the one. Usually if there is a dragon priest involved the dragon nearby fights with him.

Nope not those 2 they are just sitting there and it are 2 dragons one on each side so if you see one the other should be on the other side.

Hmmm. Maybe I missed him as I was concentrating on the one I first noticed and then the dragon priest. Why don't they attack though? I thought all the dragons with the exception of our friend P was aggressive?

Not sure myself. Odaving did say some dragons began to quietly question Alduin's lordship. Perhaps they just wanted to watch and see which of you emerged from Sovrngarde?

Yes I did wonder about that. Found the answer .

Two dragons, a Frost Dragon and an Elder Dragon, watch the Dragonborn near the Sovngarde portal but do not attack unless attacked first. Both of the dragons have regenerative healing, and when their health is brought down to zero with bows and/or dragon shouts, the health bar disappears, but the name tag remains and they do not die.

Perhaps they do not attack unless their health bar is brought right down, which I did not do. Anyway that answers my questions so thank you everyone for your comments. :)

the dragon might be alduin brother (paartharnax) dont bother them they are meditating xD

Perhaps they are only there to see what happens between Alduin and the Dragonborn. Maybe they just want to watch Alduin finally get his backside kicked
