Better Vampires help?
Let's be honest: Being a vampire sucks under normal circumstances. In my oppinion, Dawnguard is nearly unplayable without the aid of this mod. Unfortunately, though, just like Dawnguard itself, it certainly has a tendancy to break allot.
I've had the Better Vampires mod for a while now, although I always have issues with creating a new character using it. I've found the culprit: the mod requires the character to have the keywords ActorTypeUndead and Vampire, which for some reason wouldn't be activated on my character if I became a vampire. The game recognises that PlayerIsVampire = 1, but no luck otherwise.
I've tried everything I could, but I can't get the mod to work properly anymore. I'm playing a default race, so it's not caused by faulty coding on the side of another 3rd party. I can only get the keywords ActortypeUndead and Vampire by actually turning into a vampire lord just to both feed, and be recognised as a vampire. The only fix I've been given would be to use the Creation Kit to manually change my "modded" race's keywords... Keep in mind that I have no idea how to use the Creation Kit on even the most basic level, so if I'm missing something, I'd appreciate for someone to point me in the right direction. Of course, if anyone knows another alternative to fix this, then that's even better.
I'd contact the mod's author myself, but he or she isn't working on this mod anymore, and I can't find a fix to this anywhere on Google or the mod author's bug-fix page.

I have no idea how Better Vampires works as Ive never used it myself, but theres a good chance that its adding these missing keywords by editing the racial records of the default vampire races. If you have a racial overhaul mod, or anything else that touches these records later in your load order, it might be being overriden.

You can load up tes5edit with all your mods, once its finished loading expand Better Vampires, see if it has a Races catagory, and if so go through the races it edits and see if anything else is overriding it.
If something is overriding it youll have to load Better vampires after that mod in your load order to get it to work, but that might make the other mod obsolete. If that is the case let me know what mod it is and I'll try and find a solution

If that doesnt help let me know and Ill try and think of something else

I've got it opened up, although since this is my first time using TES5 edit, I'm not really sure how to tell if anything's overwriting it, but I think I may have found something... It names races, however rather than mentioning them as, for example, OrcRaceVampire, it lists them as OrcRaceVampire2. Could just be my lack of understanding of what is going on, or it could actually be the cause.

I just downloaded and opened it up myself just to see whats going on in the esp. XD
And yep, thats definitely odd, never seen that before. Its not conflicting with any other racial records either as its definitely a custom vampire race. The race also has the keywords on it as well. Ive also checked the default races and default vampire races in tes5edit and they all have the keywords you mentioned attached to them as well so I don't know what the problem is there

This suggests to me that Better Vampires maybe works by assigning the player to this custom version of the vampire race instead of the default one, although why I have no idea. This would also mean that when you become a vampire youre being assigned to the default vampire race instead of this custom one, but I would have no idea how to troubleshoot that honestly.

I used the Player.setrace command to be sure, and it works fine now! I mean, you don't get those badass vampire eyes, but the mod at least works now!

I've also had a ton of problems with Better Vampires. It's a great mod, but buggy. I currently have two characters that refuse to use Better Vampires scripts, broken feeding animations, and no leveling ability. Sucks. This might be a stupid quesion, but have you tried changing your race to the vampire race of your character in the console?

Gorilla beat me to it. Meh.

Seems like Better Vampire is just not a stable mod to use any more then.
Hopefully someone will put out a patch and fix whatever problems have been caused by that if the author left permission for it before abandoning the project

Yep..is a great mode but a long time give u a lot off problems in the game...i speak for experience..i hope all these comments get can help u..cya
Late to the party but If anyone is having the issue with Better Vampires that stops you from being able to feed. In short open the console and type player.setrace [whatever race you want + vampire2] Ex: I want to be Nord with the Better Vampires version, so I would type player.setrace NordRaceVampire2
