Pearls and Small Pearls.
Anybody know where you get these items. I only know of one place. That's the Castle Volkihar Alchemy room. I'm level 3 playing with Requiem. I'm not ready for Dawnguard yet by a long shot. But I need to gather some different pearls. Am I going to have to wait? I really don't want to start Dawnguard this early in the game just to acquire pearls and small pearls. So some help would be appreciated.

In Skyrim, unlike in Oblivion, Pearls cannot be found in Clams. They can, however, be purchased at Alchemy shops or sometimes found in caves and dungeons.
With the addition of The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard, a pearl as well as a small pearl can be found in Valerica's Study, opposite the staircase that leads down into the Soul Cairn. Both of these respawn.
Pearls can also be found in an Alchemy Laboratory which may be built as a north wing addition when building a Homestead using the add-on Hearthfire. Pearls are hard to come by in Skyrim, but building all the furniture for the Alchemy Laboratory yields several pearls, along with other rare ingredients, including Powdered Mammoth Tusks.
With the add-on The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn, pearls can be found in Pearl Oysters along the shores of Solstheim.

So, if you have Dragonborn, check Solstheim for Oysters. Else, just rely on Alchemy shops.

Thanks. I have all dlc. Not ready for Dragonborn any more than Dawnguard. Now I know. Appreciate your effort.

There are some pearls in Geirmund's Hall, but yes they are quite rare. They do nothing special in the Alchemy Effects that other less rare alchemical reagents do anyway, so it's no big deal if you cannot find any.

Pretty sure theres some on a table or dresser in the kid's bedroom in Proudspire if you have Hearthfires...

walk the shorelines of the big island, start just outside Ravenrock

Use a console if it's that much important. Saves time for more interesting things to do

Thank you all for the responses. The consensus seems to be go to Ravenrock and clam hunt. Okay then that's what I'll do. Not looking forward to that Frost Troll at the top of the Throat of the World. But I'm a Fire Mage so I should be able to kill it even at low level. FYI the reason I need those darn pearls is for the mod follower Vilja. Part of her quest involves small pearls. I just wan t to get that part over with. So I say again, thanks for the responses everyone.

I was wondering if it was for Vilja! I guess that part of her quest assumes you're playing vanilla as far as enemy level scaling and can go anywhere at any point! I'll be honest, this is one point where I do tend to just cheat them in! Hopefully you manage to find them legitimately, good luck :)

The other place is any heathfire cellar or kitchen which respawn very often. In the cellar it's on the shrine .... in the kitchen on a table near the oven.

I think that if you have Hearthfire and you've adopted children, there's a chance that they may leave them for you in their chest.

You only need to go up there if you want to run through the main quest of the Dragonborn DLC.

You just want to hunt clams.

Go directly to the port at Windhelm and talk to the sailors. You can get the captain to sail you to Solstheim for a bit of gold or somesuch.

Don't have to do any quest just find oysters and go back to skyrim. Pay for boat thats all, after meeting and killing cultist and reading note.
Geirmund's Hall is where I usually find it for Vilja (make her work for it)
