UFO Mod - Followers Don't Follow - Is there a fix?
I think I've always had this problem with this mod.
My vanilla followers wont follow me ....
But I always had a workaround I was comfortable with ... I have 2 mod followers (Vilja and Cerwiden) and I could tell my vanilla followers to follow Vilja. I could then use a command to call Vilja to me and she would follow me and the followers would follow her .... sorted !!!
I would go out on adventures with Cerwiden and if the going got too tough ... I would call Vilja up and Voila ...
Vilja was also useful if I needed to transport lots of looted goods back to Breezehome ... call her up at the end of dungeon and we would go looting together.

Well now Cerwiden has ceased to follow me too ... and that's no fun .. so is there a way to reset this.

More info ... if it helps

I've been to the Mod page for UFO and I've seen something that makes me think I didn't install UFO correctly at the start of the game..... maybe

1:Use original launcher ....It tells me I should dismiss all of my followers first, type "show playercountfollowers", save then quit.
2:delete all mods affecting follower limit and mechanics
3:Delete loose pex files from DATA/SCRIPTS ... (he then gives a list of 91 files)
4:start, load,save,quit
5:Install UFO, position at lowest place
6:start,load,save,load,save,

.... well I was new to modding at the start and just used NMM and activated the mod ... (Yes I know .. I've got better habits now)

Anyway ... I've checked that list of 91 loose pex files and I don't have any (99.99% sure)
But it all seems rather complicated for such a popular mod.

And so ... I either Fix it, ignore it or change it .... but whichever I choose .... i'm going to need some help.

P.S.
I can just take Vilja with me and leave all the others behind ... but Vilja just won't shut up

You can add or remove almost anything and the game might function so long as you're not removing the custom area your character is standing in or messing with scripts used by the game to define what is and is not possible.

As for the innadequacy of UFO, I prefer Extensible Follower Framework. It gives the option of using the mod Familiar Faces to recruit any other characters you have.

Wood Elf Shadow Archer and High Elf Archmage unite to destroy evil in the name of Akatosh, their holy father.

No, don't remove mods (with .esp or .esm files, at least - textures are probably safe as long as they haven't overwritten anything) mid-game, it can and probably will cause havoc, ESPECIALLY multiple follower mods, they are notoriously a complete nightmare to remove, because they use a ton of scripts. If you want to change (I agree, EFF is my preferred one over AFT) you should start a new character. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

What happens if you dismiss them, and then ask them to become a follower again.

I get the correct responses from them ...
I've dismissed them and then told them to re-follow many times .... they say they will but don't.
I'm the dragonborn for crying out loud, They should be doing what they're told

I'm also wondering if this is a common problem ... but I've not seen anything on the forums before about this

I've never used UFO (largely because everything I read suggested it was buggy) but I had a similar issue with AFT and Interesting NPCs, and, well, it was pretty much unfixable and scared me off ever trying to use those two mods together again :( Sorry.

Firstly did you read modders description?
Make new save deactivate all follower mods and then UFO mod, play and save. Reinstall UFO mod and play and save, follower mods can be added. Unfortunately you will need to restart them to follow, if you change clothing etc these will be lost. This process may be needed to be repeated for certain mods involving clothing (blue colour) like Prince and the Pauper mod for kids clothing.

Best way to use UFO and with less hassle in the furture is to install it as the first mod in your game after SKSE and SKYUI.

I'm in game testing atm ...
I've loaded a previous save .... Cerwiden is still following me there.
Loaded my current save ... problem exits .. plus .. if I dismiss Cerwiden then I can't activate any dialogue with her after that.

Sounds like that save is corrupt, maybe play from other save and retrace your steps(if not too far back in game) and save over.

Hint
I found that having Vilja tagging along I tell followers to follow her, with her behind me. Leaving me to what ever I want to do. I do this with UFO, AFT and EFF, experimenting different options with these mods. If I don't need them tell her (Vilja) to rest and they stay together in one place etc, they are all there when I come back.

Im always adding new mods to my playthroughs, but I dont get as invested in any of them as deep as 400hrs. I dont remember having any issues with it when I added it the first time.
But what good is your 400hr playthrough if you followers no longer follow. Could go on but it'd be a whole different type of game

It's generally okay to add mods mid-game (provided they're not the kind of thing that you obviously shouldn't do that with like Requiem) but if you've already got a multiple follower mod, you can't add another without either removing the existing one (very, very risky, I did it once and completely ballsed up my game, even with having very carefully followed AFT's uninstall procedure) or adding the new one on top of the old one. Definitely don't do that, as you'll then have two active mods trying to do the same thing, which is a big no-no.

That said, yeah, if you really want to be able to keep your followers around and keep this save, you'll probably have to try something. I still really, really don't recommend it, but if you check UFO's readme/mod description it may have an uninstallation procedure, so you could make a backup of your save, follow the procedure *to the letter* (check with us if you're not sure of anything! :) I'm often around on chat although I've not used that particular mod so will probably be of limited use) and then use the 'save game cleaner' tool available at the Nexus - it is far from perfect and I wouldn't really recommend doing any of this, but if you *must* then this is the most recommended tool to use: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/? Then see if your game seems to run okay, give it at least a few hours before you start adding anything back in. I'd recommend EFF over AFT, they're both pretty good but AFT has more known issues as far as I'm aware, and they both have comparable functionality - there's a few things you can't do with EFF that you can with AFT, but most of them are more 'fun little tricks' than 'gameplay essentials'.

Also, it might be worth just going back to the save where stuff is working, and playing on from that point, while holding a block of wood in your hand with crossed fingers...

Much to think about now ...
I can get a previous save to work .... or at least have Cerwiden and Vilja follow me around ... the vanilla followers have never worked .. but I get the feeling that it may all happen again in the not to distant future.

So ... is this the time I make the jump to MO and start a whole new rebuild of my game.
After all ... this is my first playthrough and the majority of my mods were installed in the first few days. I've had to ignore many mods I would've liked to use since then as they don't fit / work with those initial choices. No COT, Civil War Overhaul and many others. The only real big changes I have are Pure Waters and Pure Weather.. I've 160 mods but they're mostly minor (imo) ... Cloaks, Lanterns, ..... you know the stuff.
I know a lot more now ... and I also know there's advice and tips to be had off you guys and gals.
I also know that it's take time to build and I'm in no rush. So I'll give myself a week to build it right.

As you can see ... I'm nearly ready ... just trying to convince myself that now is the time

Do it... *waves lovely MO around*
