Anoriath won't F***king DIE!
I'm on the DB contract quest to kill Anoriath, the wood elf hunter in Whiterun... but he WON'T DIE!! I've used every possible form of combat to kill him; swords, axes, maces, bows, fire, ice, lightning, even freaking CONSOLE COMMANDS and he won't die! This is seriously pissing me off... someone PLEASE help!

Anoriath should be killable and I have done that several times. There is no known bug targeted to Anoriath that would cause this. Do you have any mod that affects to NPCs?

Is he essential or something?

None at all. I do run quite a few mods on my system but NONE of them should affect the DB questline. Also, whenever I try to spawn him in the Whiterun marketplace to kill him, he runs to the Drunken Huntsman and stands in a corner and NEVER moves. I've waited for DAYS in game and he just stands by the stairs and doesn't move, so not only can I NOT kill him, but if I attempt to he's in a spot where EVERYONE can see.

I've been able to kill Anoriath when I played Skyrim on Xbox, so he shouldn't be essential. Everytime I use the 'kill' console command on him or attack him, he'll just fall to the ground in the 'wounded' position that NPCs do just before losing their last bit of health, but then he gets back up!

Sounds like he's essential, then.

A mod may have done it.

I don't have any mods that make any NPCs essential or non essential. How do I make him non essential?

setessential (baseid) (1 or 0)

so "setessential 13B97 0" should do it

It may be a conflict in your load order. Let's rule that out first, before messing around any console commands.

For possible load order issues:
Did you sort your load order with LOOT?

LOOT
https://loot.github.io/

If you did run loot and game does not work properly, post your load order here for us to take a look at.

For posiible broken master files:
- From Steam client Library view, right click the game
- Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache...

I've run LOOT before, and my game is still unstable a lot of the time... How do I share my load order from NMM?
Ilja Mar 8, 2015 @ 4:24am
Unstable? Have you removed mods from your ongoing game? That would cause probelms and crashes to desktop.

You shold always run LOOT, when including new Elder Scrolls Master and Plugin files (mods with ESM and ESP files) to your game, to avoid conflicts with scripts.

There is two easy ways to provide your load order to us.
  1. NMM has two white paper icons in left hand bar of it's Plugins view. These icons allow you to import or export load order as TXT-file. That content can be easilly copied here.
  2. LOOT Details report can be selected and copies here. If you do so, then please clean it up a bit, from useless spaces and junk. Otherwise it is hard to read.

Jesus Christ... I went through Appdata/Local/Skyrim and pulled plugins.txt from it and saved it onto my desktop... now I have no clue how to post it on steam...
