Yngol Barrow
Does anyone know how to open the chest thats been sealed with magic? Acording to my google search leading me to UESP, It says I find the Helm of Yngol in it and the gates will open for me to continue. Theres a button in the room but when I press it nothing happens, not even an animation. UESP didnt say how how to open the chest. Since it requires a key, I couldnt get the console command "unlock" to open it either.

Is it a simple puzzle I am overlooking ? I've got 8 or 9 little blue balls jumping around too but I can figure if I am suppose to do something with them. The Druagr didnt have the key either.

Ah yes ... the UESP does describe it in the bugs section if you got the the claw from the shopkeeper in winterhold ....

Ooops no that is regarding the back gate ... the back gate only opens if you found the claw in the barrow ...

If you got the claw from Birna the shopkeeper then it will not open ... you either need to "tcl" through the gate or find the back door into the barrow !

Have you by any chance the quest for the jarl of winterhold active? that results often in a bug whereby not the shade of yngol appears but a random draugr lord. You need the to defeat the SHADE of Yngol to progress .... on the wiki pages there's a description what to do in the bugs section ... something of a reset of the dungeon I believe.

Hmm. Done that quest many times and I've NEVER had anything but a random draugr lord. Didn't know there was supposed to be a shade of Yngol.

Mostly I do Yngol barrow before I do that quest in that case the Jarl will sent you to another place.

I see, well I read somewhere after I kept googling that I could make my follower loot the chest.. Then I got the Helm Of Windhelm (even tho it was marked stolen) and completed the quest by giving it back to the Jarl. Yay for followers looting locked chests ? O_o

I've a new issue, where the chest does not open despite killing the Draugr death overlord or whatever.

ok if you kill the shade and take the helmet touch and loot the shade corpse again chest should unlock
