New to Skyrim not to TES Question about stats, menus and where to find them.
Hello all,

I bought Skyrim legendary edition last year but am just now getting around to playing it. I've selected a couple dozen good mods, and added a new user interface (it was sorely needed in Oblivion - a great game). Okay, so I start to play the game. Where are the STATS? I added SKYUI Mod and I can find the major attributes; destruction, alchemy, etc. But where are the skills like blade and strength? Where are the minor skills, and even some of the rest of the major attributes?

I'll go look again, but all I see is a pimped out SKYUI menu in full color that only shows me a few skills or attributes. Where are the others? What key do press to look at them?

Would I be better off without SKYUI mod? Oblivion had a GREAT user mod that really showed everything and in color. I also used a map mod for Oblivion that made it clearer and in color. Skyrim has no user interface that I can find that has the skills. The map is awful. Terrible.

Can someone help a newbie to Skyrim (but not to TES, I've played all the TES games including the first one, yes, I'm old). :)

I would keep SkyUI (Workshop, or Nexus Version), the primary because it organizes everything very well within your inventory.

Your "Stats" Is in your skills menu and your "powers and acitvated effects" are in the magic menu at the near end of it

But what about the skills and stats. Where are they all?

There are only 11-12 of them. Do they get added as you go?

Yes your effects will add on as you go, some are only for a limited of time but other effects last forever, Your skills will change depending upon whether your "sick" or not within the game, or you are a vampire since they take stat and skills damage

Also depending upon how you level up, your armor, weapons, and magic will also change over the course of the game

go into menu, then into skills, all 18 skills are there and showing it's up to date stat. also where you pick to spend a perk to level up that skill or any skill, it's up to you.

There are no stats per se as you would understand them. The level up system is a complete departure from other TES games. You level up by doing actions that pertain to a certain skill. i.e whack somebody with a sword and gain some xp in one-handed. Use your shield and gain some xp in blocking. So on and so forth. As you gain enough xp in a given skill that skill will level up. When it levels up you level up a little. Level up a skill/s enough and you level up for reals. When YOU are the one leveling up, and not a skill then you can choose to boost either Magica, Health, or Stamina. Magica and Health are self-explanatory. Stamina is what replaces Strength. Choosing Stamina also boosts how much weight you can carry. Once you have chosen a stat to boost then you can put a perk into any of the perk trees. Puting a perk into the eprk trees makes that particular skill even more effective. i.e you gain gain new abilities within that skill set. I hope that helps.

There are 18 skills and 3 attritbutes. Your skills are the constellations on the menu and the attributes are directly attached to your 3 meters: Health, Magicka, and Stamina.

Health is how much abuse you can take. You regenerate health based on your maximum. You regenerate health slower in combat.

Magicka is your magic. Throw fireballs. Same idea, you regen magicka based on your max, slower in combat.

Stamina is your physical energy. Sprinting and power attacks draw from this. Regen follows similar rules. You also gain extra carry weight based on your Stamina (but only from level up increases, not enchantments.)

You get to choose one attribute to increase and get one perk point after a level up, which is earned by increasing your skills. Skills increment based on usage, and every increase in a Skill increments your Level. Reduction of usage cost in spells and attack come from your Skills and Perks, not your attributes.

Weapon Skills aren't divided into weapon types like blades and blunts now. All one-handed weapons follow the One-Handed Skill, although perks inside that tree can enhance certain weapon types over others. Same with Two-Handed.

Keep SkyUI. Get a map mod, I use http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4929/?

Explore UESP. It'll help you understand how Skyrim differs from earlier games. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skyrim

Thanks all. Looks like I have a learning curve ahead of me.

Questions again. 1) I installed the map suggested above by Uncle Richarson (thanks Unc). I used the one with standard textures (since I did not add a high-res pack yet and often prefer not to -- older gpu -- and I picked that map that said "Standard All Roads" and added the texture files into the data/texture directory. However, when I use the map I do not see any roads at all. Do they show up only on the local map? Or do I have to stumle across them first? What's the deal with the map mod?

I'm still at the starting location. I found a ton of gold ingots and coins just north of Silvesters and am now heading for what appears to be a city or ruin of a city to the east but cannot find a road on the map. Is this normal? IS there some quest near Silversters that I should be looking at? Didn't see anything much in the journal. Found a ton of books lying around. Pretty boring stuff so far, but I added the Frostfall mod, so my characters if always cold. I'm wondering if I should disable the frostfall. Is is as simple as unchecking it?
My carry wieght is around 300. I think I may have messed that up. Seems kind of low for level 5.

(a few more questions....)

Also, I did use 3 console commands to add a little extra to three of my skills. Somehow this advanced me to level 5 (5?) but I never went through a "level up" situation. Have I blown it? I intended to make my character one level higher that the starting level, but not level 5. IS there a safe way for me to lower it a couple levels? Or just crank up the difficulty? I know this is like 5 questions in one post but I really could use the advice/help. Thanks in advance.

Rob
