Are you using Unofficial Patches and sorting your load order with LOOT?
i've never been able to play dawnguard. it really irritates me.
Edit: sorry was typing before your post appeared,
LOOT
https://loot.github.io/
The first video is about load order; what it is and how it affects to your game. The second video is about LOOT. You don't need to watch either just to run LOOT - you can find instructions from it's documentation. However, if you plan to mod the game further, then you might wish to watch them both, when you have the time.

I don't know what is going on there. Could you post us your load order? If you are using NMM, then you can import/export it directly from white icons next to Plugins view.
If not, then you may copy the LOOT report about your order and paste it here.

This is your load order because it should go like;
Also, you will have to have the main Unofficial Skyrim Patch active, as master file for other patches in the series.
Otherwise I am not spotting any known conflicts there. However, I do not recognize all of these mods, so hopefully others will check this as well.
Run the LOOT again. See instructions from documentation. If sorting your load order does not fix this, then it might be a memory bug. There are things we can try to fix them.
Depending on the mod and its loose files, just having the esp deactivated doesnt nessisarily remove it from the game if it has loose files, so you might have problems caused from conflicts because of that, although I dont see any mods that really should be causing the problem that you are having.
NMM also has a buggy load order display at times. I believe that gets fixed if you close NMM, run LOOT and then reopen NMM and it should display the proper one
LOOT is the one that should be set and abided by
ps thanks for all your help guys. very much appreciated!
