Is light armor worse than heavy armor or is it just me?
Title says all. Try to convince me of any benefits to light armor over heavy armor. Weight and slowdown can be bypassed easily with the steed stone or perks.

Powergaming wise, light armour is better than heavy armour because of the armour cap of 567/87? which theoratically, a set of well tempered fur armour gives as much protection as a set of Daedric armour. Also since light armour is well, light; you can use another stone, you sneak better and you don't need to waste a perk point (One that is very high level for HA I might add) to keep on your feet.

Vanilla yes however with mods like skyre it's more a choice and heavily depends on play style.

I have played near-as-dammit 1000 hours, about twenty or twenty five characters, and only one has used heavy armour for more than a few hours (and that with SkyRe and Immersive Armours). Most are in light from the start of the game (with the odd cloth-only mage/thief). As Delta says, if you temper it, you can be just as damage resistant as any heavy-armoured tank, but also, not everyone plays in such a way that they get hit a lot, making armour rating fairly unimportant. (Although of course, that makes raising your armour skill harder unless you pay for training, in vanilla, at least - both SkyRe and Requiem (dunno about PerMa) also allow gradual skill increases just from running around in your chosen gear).

Yea the stats in skyre for heavy armor can be insane I mean I had a set of dragonbone armor with a stat of over 1200 (level 80 and smithing at 150+ and all perks in heavy armor) .... However in skyre there is a bigger downside to heavy armor then vanilla. As said it all depends on playstyle.

Light armor is better if you are duel wielding daggers or swords. Heavy armor is better if you want to sword and shield, or 2 hand generally.

As I said playstyle especially with skyre, because there are so many perks you have to make a choice. As for vanilla I would recommend light armor.

I always used light armor because it means I can carry more. I'm greedy.

I use the steed stone and when I reach level 70, the perk to make heavy armor weightless.

Using smithing for light armor that exceeds the armor cap anyway? Hitting level 70 heavy armor is easier than smithing that.

Even then, heavy armor perks are, in my opinion, better than light armor perks.

no light armor is crap for sure

Well, then the answer is that for your preferred playstyle, heavy armour is better, and for some of the rest of us, light armour is better. It's all about what suits your overall playstyle, or the particular character/build you're going for on a given playthrough, really. I would much rather use a more interesting stone (and I tend to use mods that affect the stones anyway) than the steed, but if you like having weightless heavy armour, go for it! That's the beauty of this game, you can usually find something that suits you down to the ground.

Followup questions: Are daggers worse than warhammers? Are iron weapons worse than daedric weapons?

p.s. The OP specifically discounted weight factors. I don't consider light armor to be worse than heavy armor, but ONLY because of the weight factor. Heavy armor is ... heavy! There is a small stealth factor involved as well. Still, the way the question is worded leads me to suspect a troll.

Naah daedric is just too look cool and be hipster around skyrim folks. You can level blacksmithing what you want to feel like a hardworking badass and show your friends how much points you got in it. But really? psst iron is the sh*t

No troll here.

IMO light armor should have more unique perks that make it worthwhile. Stamina regen is cool, but it needs more.

Some ideas:

-Actually being able to go faster than with weightless heavy armor
-Bonuses to sneaking and archery
