Roleplaying Ideas
Yes, I'm sure this thread has been made many a time, but I'm completley out of ideas. Maybe roleplaying just isn't for me, but everytime I roleplay I can never really get into the character, and I generally get bored before I even start.

I've been a priest, werewolf, vampire, hunter, fisher, miner etc, so maybe I'm just doing the wrong type of roleplay, but I've looked online and can't seem to find anything new or exciting.

What roleplay characters are the most fun to do? Does anyone have any ideas on something different?

Thank you very very much in advance! :)

I'll list down some of my playthroughs but I'll omit some character points.

- Vegetarian Velothi Vampire Hunter
- Insane Dwemer Ruins Archeologist who only speaks and writes in Limericks
- Big Brainy Norse Bandit who everyone thinks is an idiot
- Casanova-esque Witchblade Sellsword
- Thalmor Spy
- Argonian Slave Escapee named "Prisoner"
- Orsimer Thief-Mage
- Imperial Salesman
- Albino Vigilant of Stendarr

EDIT: I also write up my playthroughs in MS Word and in a very-broad strokes kind of way, all of these characters are in "my" fanon and brush but never necessarily meet with each other. For example, Vegetarian Velothi gets attacks from DB but they stop affter Imperial Salesman slaughters them all.

Well... you are using mods right?? There are plenty which enhance roleplaying. Start with alternate start, choose one that would go along with a good character idea, like being a hardcore daedra hunter that serves Stendarr. There is a long you can do with mods.

I have Alternate Start - Live Another Life, and a couple of other mods to enhance the roleplay experience, like adding more random characters and adding more immersive items to the game. Are their any mods in paticular you'd suggest? Thanks.

mods are how I invent my next story, new playthrough will be purely outdoor living, no metal armors, no city visits, frostfall on hardcore, RND, Campsite of the Northern Ranger, no powerleveling, all natural playthrough

Pick a personality, stick to it. Let it impact gameplay. I've played a racist dumb Nord. This meant I had to join the Stormcloaks. I hated all elves with a passion because they banned Talos so I killed them at the slightest provocation. Dunmer farmer on the road talking about joining the Imperials? Die traitor!
For his lack of smarts meant I couldn't use any magic, ever. It also made him distrustfull of wizards and enchanted weaponry. Wizards are also routinely killed because of this. As a thief he hoarded all the gems he could find, never selling them. Enchanted gear would obviously be sold. Stave usage he shunned, books he never read unless absolutely neccesary for the game to function.
Limit yourself with your roleplay and have fun. You can always play a moron, he has some inane magical talent but is just stupid. When someone annoys him he casts a random spell at them. I dunno use a RL dice to determine that :P Then life with the consequences. Or make an puppeteer. Never personally attack your opponnent. So never go with aggressive options in dialogue. Use illusion spells like calm and frenzy to let people fight eachother. Use undead to fight for you or simply flee with a few utility spells.

Then don't. Its a *game*. If you don't enjoy roleplaying then just go shoot things up. If you're not enjoying yourself then what's the point of playing a videogame? You could be out doing something equally unpleasant but that is actually useful.

The thing is, I really like the idea of roleplaying, as I do it quite a lot on other games and I do think I would enjoy it. I just don't have the creativity to come up with an interesting character, so I'm looking for inspiriation. If it just isn't working for me, I'll stop.

Well I would say try it for once and if it isn't for you you can abandon the idea no sweat.

My favourite is using Amazing Follower tweaks. when your game gets boring or about to end, take control of a jarl or somebody unique and adventure with them.

I also like to use followers as my main means of combat. intentionally level up your non combat skills(speech, lock pick, etc..) and put the difficulty up. it forces you to hide behind your follower or run around avoiding a direct assault.

You just may need to take some time off to find inspiration. a fav show or other character. add some mods to add similiar armors and weapons or any gameplay feature that helps.

plus there is no reason not to use the console to add gear or spells or shouts or........
anything you want right from the start. it is your game and contrary to what some people say it is not cheating.

once you have some idea post your thoughts. I am sure there are people myself included that will be glad to shoot ideas back along with mods we know of to help you build your new game play.

Maybe doing a quick playthrough with your OC would help, if you do that I reccomend you use Live Another Life. LaL allows you to start in tons of different places, and still allows you to go back and be Dragonborn.
OOOOR, if you want a mod that allows you to have other characters from RP's you've been in, you can get Familier Faces. I'd be happy to link them if you want. c:

So what do you do when you start a character. For me, that has a lot of bearing on roleplaying and on how interesting a character is. Do you level up skills? Do you have a definitely idea on how you plan to do questlines?

How do you approach your game?
Mormacil Jan 30, 2015 @ 10:18am
To me I set limits, I choose the weapontypes I'll use, what guilds I will do and then from there on just play the game within those constrains.
Brandybuck Jan 30, 2015 @ 10:25am
Some suggestions: Limit the skills you will allow your character to use. A bit of gimping can go a long ways. I once had a Nord two-handed warrior who never used bows. Made fighting dragons a bit difficult. Or try a mage that only uses one school of magic (and not Destruction).

Limit your moral options. RPGs love to give you morally grey quests, so much that they have become a cliche. But that doesn't mean you have to be morally grey as well. Be a greedy scumbag who ONLY helps others if there is an explicit and significant reward involved. If you're a shiny knight of Stendarr, don't ever do quests where money IS offered. Basically, figure out what kinds of quests your character will and will not do, and under what circumstances.

Play opposite your stereotype. Orc illusionist and witty conversationalist. Altmer heavy armor warrior who despises magic. Redguard unarmed thief and second story man.

Find a quirk of some kind and stick to it. Catch a disease and then NEVER cure it. Always loot cabbages. Acute arachnophobia. Etc.

Hmmm, maybe I'll do that for my next playthrough. Low self esteem, no ambition, fatalist, just trying to survive to the next day.
kevinshow Jan 30, 2015 @ 10:53am
You could go hunt animals only, sell their body parts to make money. Then put that money into the pockets of unsuspecting townsfolk.
