Unless I'm missing something?
The mods I run are SkyUI, all the DLC and Unofficial Patches, Climates of Tamriel, Enchanced Blood, Realistic Ragdolls, Stones of B Quest Markers, Quality World Map, Hearthfire Display Case Fix, Immersive Armors & Weapons, and Better Females.
I'm beginning to think I'll need a mod or otherwise to get him to equip armor as I didn't notice the excerpt in Roscarias link about him not switching his outfit....
"Similarly, he's carrying a steel mace while having a perk for axes instead, although you can just switch his weapon, unlike his outfit."
However, I've googled this issue alot and I've seen plenty of pictures with him in other sets of armors so I know it must be possible.
I'm hesitant to install any follower mods out there because I'm afraid they'll conflict with the mods I have already.
The NPC Vladimar works just fine. You do not need a mod. As of now (2019) there is no bug.
He is just a mage and has a preference to armors that he benefits from, or likes better.
Example:
- If you give him a heavy dwarven armor with health bonus enchantment, he will NOT use it.
- If you give him a light glass armor with regenerate magicka enchantment, he is likely to put it on if the enchantment is better than that of his own armor.
Some NPCs also seem to differ between light and heavy armor.
Out of curiosity, how early/late in your game did you meet him? Is he in his low level iron or steel armor, or has he already progressed to steel plate? If so, vanilla Dwarven won't do much for him, and you might have better luck with a higher tier armor. They generally equip what they perceive to be "better," and don't usually take into account enchantments, though they will usually (not always...picky AI) equip upsmithed armor over vanilla of higher tier.
Try improving the Dwarven and see if he accepts it. If not, console yourself a higher tier (ebony) and see what changes.
If you choose the "removeallitems" command, you will run into trouble, because for some reason they go back to default if fully naked. If you want to console things, leave them with one piece of their default gear, maybe boots or gauntlets, etc., and they'll usually keep the new stuff. If you're using equipitem, make sure you add a 1 after the item ID.
Easiest, get a mod like Amazing Follower Tweaks, in which you can take away everything and set what you want them to wear at all times, no matter what else you hand them to carry. This comes with its price, though, if you dismiss followers. Later in your game, when things are a bit laggier, you may find them naked for a few seconds, before the scripts reapply their armor.
