I think you should, but I enjoy roleplaying in game and immersion so I enjoyed the marriage and adoption perks of the DLC. If you don't care for the several achievements, there is a mod that lets you build a home but it isn't perfect. :)

The coolest/most useful thing to me that is added to the game is being able to build your own house. The house can end up, I'd say, bigger than the one you can purchase in Solitude, and you can add on what rooms would be the most useful to your character such as an alchemy tower or an armory and such.

There are some pretty impressive Hearthfire mods to make the homesteads standout more than the generic builds and making the standard player homes within the game vastly different from each other. To me, i like they added an adoption system, ironically that was the negative thing about Hearthfire if the developers were to make the adoption system more polish plus adding in children from other races (Luckily mod creators have done that) then it would be a whole lot more interesting.

I think the best part about Hearthfire is the whole Walden aspect of it, one lone individual building a home up from nothing into being one of the potentially nicest homes in all of Skyrim. Plus, that feature was one of the things I missed about Oblivion and basic Skyrim; no homes to build. I missed that from Morrowind.

Besides, what other DLC gives you the chance to meet the dumbest bandit in Tamriel?

to be more compatible with skyrim and mods, it's BEST to own the full game. YES buy Hearthfires.
