Prowlers profit comes too late to be worth the hassle?
I know i cant be the only one who, by the time i actually collect all barenziah stones, already have a massive bank of wealth that effectively negates all the potential income from the gemstones acquired by prowlers profit. Even if the stat is unbelievably generous to the point where every urn is its own treasure stash, when you already have >100k gold, extra gems are somewhat pointless. Especially since they easily outnumber the amount of gold/silver ore you would need for smithing.

Since you need a minimum of 25,000 gold to acquire the Proudspire stone, it makes the main benefit of gems irreverent. Yes, you can use them for some extra smithing xp, but at the point where you had already made that much gold you've liekly surpassed the point where jewelry offers the most XP is you didn't max the skill already. And if one is looking to make gold, smithing isn't the best option, that still remains alchemy.

Though you can forgo any skill to make money with prowler's profit, you likely already have a way, 25k is a lot for simple selling of loot, that amount (at least when you're not high level) takes a dedicated effort. And you already have the most expensive house... do you even need the gold?

I think prowler's profit is never worth the hassle. I have done the Crown quest only once, and have no desire to do it again, and I cannot with the limitations I place on myself. I do not join every faction with any character. Of the two characters I have that are thieves, neither one of them are mages, so I will not join the college, and you can't get that stone unless you do.
