how to find a lost follower

Hello Skyrim community, I really need your help !
It's been a while since i last needed my follower but I had one for sure. So I don't remember who it was and where I left him/her. Actually, I can't get anyone else follow me, they all keep on telling me that I already got someone. So I tried all the youtube tutorials I found but I still can't fix it.
Any tips or tricks ? Cheers !

You should at least have lydia from dragons reach if your've done the 1st dragons quest at west tower area, then aquired lydia
go here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lydia and write down her ref id and base id i cant remember which one it worked with then fo outside your home or just outside some where and try the console command placeatme "lydias id"with out the speech marks ...

You can also just sleep/wait for 3 days. If your follower was waiting somewhere, he/she will have returned home and you can equip a follower again.

If that doesn't fix it, you'll need to find out who your lost follower is, so you can lookup their id and move them to you.

Key 'T' for a few hours or go to a nearby cave entrance and enter he/she will be there then leave cave (as long as you haven't dimissed the follower).

You can try following: Do a short fast travel. If your follower is present and able to move - or not ordered to wait - they will appear nex to you.

You could also try console command:

set playerfollowercount to <#>

where the value "0" would clear your follower count. (set playerfollowercount to 0).

Just be certain that the follower you had was not a quest follower, or that quest might get bugged. Look what quests you have started and if you had any followers assigned - like Farkas waiting for you in a designed destination.

Hi mvp, do you have Hearthfire? I lost my follower ages ago and no console cheat (pc) or suggestions worked. Wasn't until I got Hearthfire and said "Follow me" to the steward who helps with the house (she happened to walk past) that I got the message "your follower has left". So she replaced the last one, problem solved. I also have Serana (Dawnguard) but that didn't affect her. I couldn't remember which follower I had so don't know what I would've done otherwise.
