Load a previous save. Heal them. Give them better armor. Just throwing ideas at you.

The shout reduces the armor of followers permanently, making them very weak for the rest of the game. With the console command "getav damageresist" and "restoreactorvalue damageresist <number>" you can get and restore the armor rating of your marked follower.

This bug is fixed by version 1.1 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.

Then you'll need to reload to an earlier save, I'm afraid. Marked for Death is, unfortunately, a risky shout to use with followers even without the glitch.

Glad for the heads-up on this. I just activated that shout.

in the Dragonborn DLC, there is a black book that will lead you to an active effect that will protect your followers from all forms of damage you put out towards your foes. It's called Companion's insight and it protect your followers from all your SHOUTS, weapon damage and magic damage

You mean the shout? Interesting, I've used "heal other" spell to stop othem from dying, the shout will wear off after a a while.

I use USKP so I guess I didn't have any trouble with armour etc.

I've had that effect and my followers still got marked when I used that shout and they got in the way. I imagine that would therefore mean they would still be glitched, and possibly, given the permanent effect is a glitch, it might also glitch on the 'no damage due to active effect' thing.
OMG, that's like putting a hit out on your own mother... you just don't do that man.. bad form dear girl, bad form..
