Cant' start Arniel's Endeavor quest?

for some reason I can't activate the quest no matter what.
When I try talking to Arniel and select the option "Is there any college business I can help with?", he'll reply something like "You mean official college business, no, not really," then the entire dialogie just cuts short and ends there. Isn't this how the quest is supposed to be started? Because if so, then it must be a major bug with the dialogue tree. Anyone has any idea?

Might have to do with an ongoing quest -- If you've got the Staff of Magnus quest ongoing, i think its the Labyrinthian one, then Arniel won't offer the dialogue option until its completed, same applies to a few other people in the college who won't offer dialogue until its finished.

No, I don't have any of that college quests ongoing and like I said. I DO have the dialogue option "Is there any college business I can help with?" on him but it seems like it's the the dialogue that is broken, since he only answers the first line then the conversation just cuts short and ends completely.
There's also no prerequisites for the quest apart from being a member of the college, which I obviously am so clearly the quest should be available

On the elder scrolls wiki page it says you have to have completed Good Intentions quest for the college main questline before he starts asking for stuff for his experiments. Have you got upto to that part yet?

Where exactly did you get that from? The only prerequisite I see on the wikia and uesp is Membership to the College. Anyway is the dialogue option I mentioned even the correct trigger for the quest or am I wrong?

Elder Scrolls wiki, on the Arniels Endevour quest page it says you have to complete Good Intentions before he asked for the first part of what he needs---the Dwemer Cogs.

If you don't get upto that point in the main college quest I think the dialogue still appears but he doesn't ask for anything. Try completing upto Good Intentions and then ask him, should work.

Thats the page, but at the bottom of the part 1: The Dwemer Cogs, it says this:

This part will become available after the Good Intentions quest is reached. Before that, he will not speak about the Dwemer Cogs at all.

Yeah you have to be a little ways into the college of winterhold quests before you can start Arniel's Endeavor. At least that is how it has always been for me.

I'm pretty sure it triggers and the dialogue appears correct once you've got through the main questline abit. No need for console commands, they can glitch out the game even more. I only use those in emergencies ;o)

I believe you need to be Archmage to do his quest
