"To the Brotherhood" by Maven Black-Briar - Who is the victim?
Is it maybe possible that the victim is the Dragonborn? Because you know, the Brotherhood is usually able to fulfill their missions, but the Dragonborn is attacked by an assassin quite in the beginning of the game. And the letter says that the assassination failed... One extra cause to type <setessential idofmaven 0> in the console, to kill this greatly behated witch >:)

I always thought Keith was the victim

Just wished the vanila game had given an outlet to kill her or get rid of her.
I guess that Maven can't see in the future, but Thieves Guild questline makes you her number 1 wo/man. Fact, that I have met assassins after that even pretty much breaks this theory.

Fact, that they stopped coming after me, once I butchered the whole brotherhood is more important part of any theory. ;)

I really do not sugest using console for quest characters. Maven has more important role in Skyirm than mainly being a Thieves Guild customer. Killing her with console might make the game to make checks on her, suspectin her to be alive. If that fails, you might meat a lot of bugs in later stages of the game.

I've been attacked by occasional assassins as well and have always fended them off since they just run right at me instead of resorting to stealth, though I don't know who hires them. I usually assume it's an NPC whom my character has somehow wronged before, but the notes I find on the assassins' corpses don't mention who performed the Black Sacrament and named her as the intended target. I doubt Maven could be behind some if not all of the assassination attempts since she hardly does anything that goes against the Black Briar family, save for stealing Frost with the deed of ownership for Letrush and delivering mead to Wilhelm in Ivarstead.

This is right, but before i killed her, i read the article about her in the Skyrim Wiki to check if there is an important quest, but there isn't. I also killed all of my behated friends in the Thieves' guild by setting them unessential, e. g. Brynjolf and Merver, i only left Delvin (cuz he is kind of ok) and Galathil (cuz i need her for restyling my character ;)) alive, and Vex, because i needed her for the quest with the drunken guy in Winterhold, but after this i killed her aswell. Don't worry, i read everyone's article first but i had to kill them because there is no official Thieves' Guild destroy quest. I like Ingun Black-Briar because she is really kind but i hate Maven so i decided to kill her aswell, omg she has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ valuable jewelry on her ;)
I found a letter from Maven to (I forget his name) telling him she forgives him for their past misunderstanding. Please come back to Riften. Sending someone to escort you there. Pack all your stuff, it may be a dangerous trip. The guide will meet you at night........ Sounded like a set-up for a kill to me.
my theory is that the brotherhood sends the hopeless initiates to kill the dragonborn.

That explains why they are so pityful and never stop coming, even when you leave their decapitated bodies with the contract on the road as a warning.

Good way to get rid of unwated members xD

hey tom, you got a D- in "deady poisons and you" and a F in "the stealthy approach".
I think its time for you to test your knowledge in the field, here is your contract, dont come back until its fullfilled!

Milk is good for peoples, who want to get muscular ans strong.
Those big boys of Skyirm are secrelty sipping their milk in shady corners of cities and towns.

(He says, while drinking his after-gym proteine milkshake and prepearing to open a beer for FIN-GER in 2014 World Championships.)
Most popular livestock in Skyrim = cows. QED.
Want to give a warning though if you kill Maven the rift has NO JARL after the negotiations and also no jarl if you want to reside with the empire during the civil war so there are BIG consequences which can break your game.

I knew the consequences, and i hate the empire as much as the Black-Briars (except of Ingun, she's nice). I have 7 characters and i sided with the empire only one time just to see every aspect of the game, and one character is a brotherhood and thieve Khajiit, created for the same cause.

My hate order in Skyrim is:

1. The Thalmor
2. Black-Briars (Without Ingun)
3. The Dark Brotherhood
4. The Thieves' Guild
5. Volkihar Vampires
6. The Forsworn
7. The Imperials (they are only puppets, i only fight them to fight the Aldmeri Dominion afterwards (which is not available in this game ;-;), and because they are cowards which bent their knees in front of the White-Gold Concordat)
8. The Battleborn Clan

You hate Dark Brotherhood but like Ingun? I always assumed she wanted to be in that group, but her mother wouldnt let her.
"Hmph. My family. All that wealth and they squander it on foolish ventures and political schemes. I was meant for so much more than all of this... I wish to pledge my life and ply my talents in darker circles. If only my mother would let me, I would make her proud."

Sorry, off topic.

On topic: maybe Ulfric? Because if he was dead and Riften taken by Imperials, she would be jarl.

Oh i never thought of Ingun's sentence xD Hmm, but she is kind and stuff, and is not like the other Black-Briars, not interested in their intrigues and stuff.

True, she isnt an arrogant snotface. She is too busy making poisons and testing them on little animals.
Hafjorg: "Oh dear, I didn't mean to say she isn't bright. It's the things she makes here, the things she says and all those poor little animals she tests them on. It's just not right."
Imagine having her as a wife and your adopted kid brings a little pet home...lol
