Directional input delay in third person
I've seen a lot of people have this problem but I still don't know of any solution. Basically there is about a half second input delay when trying to start movement in a direction while playing in third person. Before anyone asks, no, it is NOT lag. The problem persists even on low settings (and the game runs at 60fps on ultra high regardless). I've heard someone say it was a deliberate design feature to make third person movement seem more realistic, and that the delay is part of some "starting to run" animation, but it's not. There is no movement in the half second delay between pressing the button and the character beginning to move, it's just pure, unnecessary input delay.

So yeah, I really don't know what to do. I know I'm probably in the minority but I love playing in third person and this problem really makes it difficult. Jumping in third person has no delay, just the beginning of movement. I don't know if anyone has ever found a fix, or maybe it's something someone could possibly mod, I have no idea, I just thought I'd make a post about it hoping someone can help.

do you use a gamebad/xbox cotroller/whatever that is not mouse and keyboard?

if yes, try without
if no, try another keyboard... skyrim is a weird game...

I'm using a keyboard but I have a 360 controller coming in the mail. I seriously doubt the problem will persist once I'm on a controller but it's not coming for a week or so so I figured I'd at least try to see if anyone had found a solution to this yet. I've tried other keyboards and the same thing happens. No mods or anything installed, either. It just seems like a strange problem to be so common and to still not have some workaround.

Not really, I just kind of stopped playing.

Guess I'll give up as well then.. nobody seems to have found a solution and I tried pretty much everything during the two past weeks. That really sucks.

I know you said it is not lag, but could you try something out? If in 3rd person you move straight forward (center of FOV) is the delay less than if you move off axis to the right or left which would change the image in the field of view. Is there a difference?

Have you tried to remove Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini from Documents > My Games > Skyrim?

If this is about configuration problems, then it would be related to those. These files will be created again from clean table, when game is ran again.

If you use SKSE launcher, then open the default Skyrim Launcher first to inspect the data, close it and run game from SKSE launcher.

Same delay.. I mean I'm not a robot and I don't know exactly the delay I have, but it feels the same.

Yes, I've entirely uninstalled the game and reinstalled as well; I'm having this problem since more than a year (I've made some posts myself on the Steam-Forums in the past but get no answers)
Here's the post I made recently if you want to see everything I tried without success.[forums.bethsoft.com]

Thanks, I was interested if it appeared to be a problem with rendering, if it stuttered more moving off axis I would suspect so.
I guess the only thing I would try, given your efforts so far, is using the manufacturers uninstall utility to remove all remnants of previous video driver updates from the registry. Then run CClean, then fresh install of your video drivers. That is all I have, sorry.

Hehe, thanks for helping :squirtyay:
"Unfortunately" I've already tried that.. Uninstalled all drivers, ran Driversweeper, then CCleaner, then reinstalled everything; same results :')

I don't like to give up, I know this game is fun but I'm at a point where I think I tried everything except format and reinstall Windows. (and I don't want to do this for a single game)

1. It occured to me that this might actually be a problem with freezing mouse cursor. Go to your computer Control Panel. Make sure that mouse and cursos acceleration is disabled for games.

2. It also occured to me that your card settings might be conflicting with your game settings. I don't know what kind of control panel your card has, but it should have options for program 3d settings. Make sure that key features are handled buy Skyrim itself, instead computer.

If neither of these fixed your problems, then I am unfortunately out of ideas.
(For now.)

1. Not sure how to do that, my Enhance pointer position is disabled and I modified the SkyrimPrefs.ini line bMouseAcceleration=1 to 0.
That said, I've read a lot of people having issues to aim and moving the mouse etc., I surprisingly don't.

2. Indeed, I turned everything I could to Use application settings
This is what it looks like[image.noelshack.com]

Thanks you once again for helping :squirtyay:

1. I actually managed to find instructions for mouse. However, not all versions have that. It was a shot in the dark, but worth to try.

2. Yeah. Looks good. And didn't help, I see. *Headsmak*

If I have read and understood this correctly, this bug does not appear when riding, but only when walking. There must be something there, but my know-how is not wide - or spesific - enough to bite trought this right now.

1. Done already, I got sent to this Steam Support page in the past :$

Exactly, it only happens on foot ! Incomprehensible :gaper:

I don't understand why people are complaining about it, I personally find it gives more rather than less control.
