north of Markreath, get quest to clear out gold mine. try google SKYRIM GOLD MINES

or just use transmutate, it's an alteration spell, converts iron ore into silver ore and silver ore into gold ore

Don't want to cheat, exactly. I remember mining some up some mountains near aone of those Dweemer cities but can't remember where.

The Transmute Mineral Ore spell is not a cheat; it is a real spell in the game. Since you going to mines anyway it can be found in the Halted Stream Mine, on the bandit chief's table.

Gold isn't the problem ... for instance quicksilver is far more rare.

That mine north of Markarth is guarded by Forsworn and they won't give it up without a fight. Tons of gold in there though. Theres a gold ore vein on top of the entrance to Winterhold's prison .

The Transmute spell makes gold mines pretty valueless though.

I didn't post this because I'm desparate for gold, just thought I'd start a friendly list for those who want to participate. I needed gold for a quest, & found it randonly one day, and now I need gold again for a task and I thought maybe this was something many of us had experienced.
