Is it going to impact my FPS when changing resolution from 1600x900p to 1920x1080p
Hi! Thanks to you guys on the community i play Skyrim!

Back to the question,

I'm currently using a 1600x900p monitor and thinking of upgrading my monitor to 1920x1080p.

Here are my spec for my rig:
AMD FX 6300
Sapphire r7 260x 2Gb OC edition
4Gb of ram (Might grab another 4gb)

As of this moment, I have 30 active mods (Visual Enhancements mods only) and planning on adding more mods. I'm running at a Stable 60 Fps on Ultra with all the mods activate. Will my Fps drop if I change my monitor resolution to 1920x1080p?

*It's my first time playing Skyrim and maybe some of you might think "damn this guy is playing skyrim the first time and he's using mods! wtf?!" Well.. if I were to offended any of you hardcore Skyrim players, I'm truely sorry..

Pretty much universally any time you increase the resolution without decreasing any other graphical effects, you're going to take a framerate hit. If you're using AA it will be much more noticable.

Nah , your config can run skyrim at 1080p with mods with no problems , i would advise to try and grab at least more ram , 8gb at least if you plan to run alot mods !

If you're going to grab more RAM you'll want the mod that forces Skyrim to load more upon start, otherwise it won't make much of a difference. It helps significantly with crashing when using a lot of mods with high-res textures or scripts. It's a 32-bit application so it's limited to 4GB anyway, INCLUDING video RAM, on a 64-bit system. With 8 gigs of system RAM at least Skyrim can use all 4.

Increasing resolution WILL result in a reduction of framerates. Whether or not it's noticeable, that's the question. Going from 120 to 100 isn't noticable. Honestly I can't remember if Skyrim is framecapped at 60 anyway, in which case Rampage is probably right. However, if you start throwing in a lot of high-def graphics mods you'll notice it.

I never gotten more than 60 -62 fps even on low settings. Do you think they framecapped it?
kalnaren 13 kwietnia 2014 o 7:40
With VSync on it will be capped, but come to think of it I don't think I've ever seen my FPS counter go above 60 once the game world is loaded.
It's capped at 60 because of the way the physics engine works. Completely breaks if you disable Vsync. Also the loading screens are capped to 30 probably to spend more time loading than rendering the scene. To answer your question yes it will decrease GPU usage, but you should still be above 60 everywhere with your config.

Well that's a relief.. Skyrim looks just great on 1600x900p but i thought it would look gorgeous on a 1080p monitor :P

Resolution doesn't really have much of an impact on newer video cards. Anything ABOVE 1080p would. Adding Anti-Aisling will however slow you down at higher resolutions as its a process of resampling the image at a higher resolution than the current.

The R7 260x is roughly equivalent to an HD6870 or GTX 650 ti. Not bad but hardely a powerhouse. Even with the higher clocks it will suffer from the low memory bandwidth running a large number of graphical mods, especially at 1080 or higher.

Of course, best thing to do is simply bump the resoltion and see what happens :P. If the frames drop to unacceptable levels you can always throttle back some stuff or drop the resolution. No big problem there.

I used to run a 6870 at 1920x1080 and with visual mods, it definitely took a hit. ENBs were basically not viable unless you were okay with 30-40 fps. Without ENB and just texture packs it runs fine. Im assuming since the OP is already getting good fps at 1600x900, he is probably not running too many demanding visual mods so if there is a fps drop, it will be minimal.
In other words, he should be fine.

I'm currently running these mods on 1660x900p and get 60 fps:

RealVision ENB
Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM by Brumbek
Detailed Rugs by raiserfx
Skyrim Flora Overhaul
Realistic Water Two
Project Reality - Climates Of Tamriel V3.1 by JJC71
Supreme Storms for Climates of Tamriel 3_1
Climates of Tamriel - Weather Patch
Realistic Lighting Overhaul 4.0.8.02
SkyUI by SkyUI Team
Glowing Ore 300

and other small character enhance mods.

What GPU would you suggest for an upgrade on my rig? Nvidia or AMD?

For some reason, having an enb enabled seems to fix that vsync bug. I can go up to over 80-90fps with iPresentinterval = 0 in the ini file, and everything will be fine. Without an enb, I'll instantly start getting that water sound / flicker bug that hurt my eyes so much...

I have a RealVision ENB. Can I like... change the iPresentinterval too?

Try it. But make sure you only launch the game through SKSE, or the skyrim.exe because the launcher will revert that setting (most likely).

I like it because it greatly reduces the annoying mouse lag and I usually gain a few fps even if the game runs under 60fps.

I think realvision is the only really demanding thing on that last. If you were running some HD texture mods (like the Skyrim 2K mod) you'd really see a hit.

For GPU it really comes down to how much money you want to shell out. Both AMD and nVidia make some decent GPUs across the price range.
