A TES Lore Question...
As I've stated in other threads, Skyrim was the first TES game I played. I love the concept of the Dwarves being a somewhat Atlantean race, it's an interesting take. But for those of you who know the lore very well, have the Dwarves always been 'extinct' or were they a playable and/or interactable race in any of the older titles?

If so, does anyone have a screenshot of what they looked like in this universe?

Well, in Morrowind you did meet Yagram Bagarn, the last living Dwarf, at least as far as he knew. He was both immortal due to corprus disease and rendered disfigured by it, and parts of him had been replaced by machinery. There were also a few Dwemer ghosts floating about in Morrowind - they looked very much like neo-Assyrian artwork.

Very cool...thank you...if you or anyone stumbles across any other images, I'd love to see them. The Dwemer fascinate me, perhaps because they're 'extinct' , or because they just up and vanished according to some of the lore I've dug through. Or maybe because, as I said before they seem rather Atlantean to me.

I always liked this concept art one.

Note assyrian art similarities: http://www.scherminator.com/britain/london/lionHunt/lionHunt0.jpg

I think it is fascinating as well, mostly because it is one of those things I am certain we will never have an answer to. To give an answer as to what happened would be to ruin it.

Yeah I noticed the similarities, but I couldn't remember the name/period of the style it resembled.
Yes it's one of those unsolved mysteries, that we'd be disappointed if it was solved. Especially if the Dwemer are just holed up in some mountain somewhere getting drunk, bowling, and laughing at all the lesser races. :)
Thanks for the info!

Ok, I admit, that is one reason for the disappearance that I would actually find satisfying. It would also explain their language. "Hey. Hey, Frank. Let's mark this place on the map as Nzurthmftz."

One interesting thing about dwarves is that they are not dwarves. Dwemer = Deep Elf. They were taller than humans, with thin long limbs like other Elves. They are called "dwarves" becouse when they ascended overground in skyrim from their underground cities, giants called the "dwarves" becouse they indeed are smaller than giants. Other elvan races went on mocking them for this reason, so now their machiery and weapons are "Nanic", but in TES there's no real Dwarf race.

Yeah, I heard that mentioned somewhere, which I also find an interesting take. In most other settings they are a race unto themselves, while here they are an offshoot of the Elven races.
